The new Rilo Kiley album: Under the Blacklight. I love the lyrics, I love the vocals, I love the melodies, and I love the fact that Blake Sennett from Salute Your Shorts plays guitar in the band. Everyone loved Ronnie Pinsky! Not to mention his lead vocals on the song "Dreamworld." It's my favorite song on the CD. They Might Be Giants, The Else.I remember TMBG from my days as a Tiny Toons fan. ...

So, last week I had the amazing opportunity (thanks to my brother for the tickets) to see 311 and Matisyahu!!The cool thing is, I've been a pretty big 311 fan for years ... probably about 11 or 12 ... and this was my first time seeing them in concert. And they were, comepletely, amazing! I was so impressed at their undeniable musical prowess - not that I had any real doubts, mind you. But quite of

I've been thinking about the purpose of music ... the real, deep down reason why it is so important to so many people around the world. Why or how, it can bridge time and distance and cultural barriers and religious barriers and language barriers. I know that music is a tool, a way for people to carry stories and ideals from generation to generation. That's what it is, but what does it mean? Music

So, I randomly happened upon a fantastic new artist this week... The Puppini Sisters. Their debut CD, "Betcha Bottom Dollar," is a mix of oldies and a new old take on some modern songs like "Heart of Glass," and one of the best renditions of "I Will Survive" I have ever heard. These girls have fantastic voices, a penchant for some of the cutest 40s fashion ever, and, hopefully, the ability to brea

The Worst Possible Song Ever

Okay ... I'm seriously still trying to get my mind around this one. Are today's kids so completely devoid of musical knowledge and/or taste that they actually LIKE that rediculous "Lip Gloss" song? Seriously?? There was an article in The New York Times recently and the writer compared, in the first sentence nonetheless, this Lil Mama and her lip gloss with RUN-D.M.C. !!!Maybe I'm getting old. I me

New New New! And Worth the Wait!

Let me just say that Maroon 5 is one of my top five favorite bands of all time. I couldn't even tell you how many times I've listened to their first CD, Songs About Jane. I'm still not tired of it, and it's been five years since its debut. Which, in itself, is pretty impressive. So it goes without saying that I have been waiting for this new album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, for a looong time...

Recently I'm all about music from the UK. And it's safe to say I've developed a mild Paolo Nutini obsession. So between him and The Fratellis, Aqualung, Mika, Jamie Cullum, Keane, Lilly Allen, Radiohead... what am I missing? Help me out. I need more ... save the classic British bands of course. I've got that under control.
