MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

(265)

One time through the first new Smashing Pumpkins album in seven years, it only makes me appreciate Siamese Dream that much more. That album was absolutely lightning in a bottle. And it's probably not fair to to compare everything Billy has done since to that record, but such is life. Nothing really grabbed me as I listened...its just sort of...ok. I am sure there will be a ton of reviews in the coming days, so I won't bore you with details...but I am a bit dissapointed.

Here is a tune from the new record...

I am more a GISH girl - so everything since then has kinda been less for me than the first - I love SD & MC&tIS... but GISH was my heart. Looking forward to listening to it to see what my reaction will be - not expecting much at all - maybe that will help :) Thanks for the review darlin, trust your thoughts !!!

I am curious to see what people think about it Liz...in my mind, Melon Collie... was the last record they ever made...after that things just sort of fell apart...if ever a band needed ALL of its original members to recapture that past magic, its these guys....just not the same without James and Darcy

Yes, I agree. It sounds as though Mr Corgan and his ersatz pumpkins are treading water, playing roles. An artist shouldn't do tributes to himself.

How could it be... Iha & Darcy really made the SP sound unique - it wasn't the Billy show - much as he might disagree :)

Will check it out tomorrow & see what I think - really doubt I'll come with a different opinion to yours though Blair !!!

i LLOOVVEE smashing pumpkins. this is more like zwan part II. not that there's anything wrong with that. i think a new band needs a new name.

errmmmm, yeah. I uh.... well.... you see there was this... uh.... well actually, erm... oh hell, I was forced at gunpoint to get the album ahead of schedule... Blair can be so mean sometimes ;) (just kiddin Blair) !!!! When I saw it - figured it was out - I should have known better - in the back of my mind now, I remember seeing it on iTunes as a preorder !!!

Ash: Did you read his book of poetry... the man totally lost me on that one ?? He is a spectacular lyricist (in my own humble opinion), but his poetry - stinkin pile o' stink. I know kids in second grade who can write better poems.

Well... maybe it's cuz I had very low expectations from the single that came out, or the fact that they really aren't the SP any longer - but on first listen, I'm diggin Zeitgeist. It's not even close to a favorite - but it's good and angry the way I like my Corgan... I think it's less stylized than Zwan, less structure...

I am liking it better than I did Zwan - at least on it's initial listen - got at least 8 more to go before I have a final opinion.

hahahaha.....;P

I did not read his book of poetry, I didn't even know he had one. I agree that he's a spectacular lyricist.
