  2. caliscrnwrtr says if it makes you feel any better, i used to work with sharks and even went diving with them a few times during feeding time. it was much fun. and sharks don't like the taste of human flesh. and the great whites go to the bay area to mate and spawn and that's when they're most dangerous so you should be pretty ok down here for the most part.

  3. Kate says In honor of Shark Week, I highly recommend the novel "The Raw Shark Texts" by Steven Hall: http://www.amazon.com/Raw-Shark-Texts-Steven-Hall/dp/1841959111 And, please, like anyone swims in the ocean in L.A. Do you want to step on a hypodermic needle or swallow sewage? I thought not.

  7. Dale says Question 1: No, the fact that you are moving at the tail end of Shark Week is a good omen. It means the sharks don't want anything to do with you. Yup. Besides, I surfed in the Pacific for six years and never saw a shark No darling, being fascinated with sharks isn't weird at all. (makes screw-loose sign) I keed. I keed!

  9. faeriedanzer19 says dude!! shark week is my favorite part of the year. hands down. i'm pretty sure i've watched it every year of my life...which means i was there at the second annual shark week ever. fun shark fact i learned this morning while learning about the evolution of sharks and ancient giant sharks etc: 4 shark related deaths a year - and like 44 million human related deaths for sharks a year. and im pretty sure that no sharks are dumb enough to try to survive in the polluted waters of LA...

  12. contrabandwidth says Sharks are definitely a very irational fear (I guess unless you scuba/surf/or fish a lot in shark infested water) but it is funny what movies like Jaws have done to our pshyche. I tend to believe that their just so cranky cuz they never get to sleep. I saw Morphine and Mededki, Martin and Wood, play together, and it is one of my most memorable concerts of all time. RIP Sandman.
