One music obsessed man's opinion

Posted about 1 year ago
For some reason, in my mind I have always linked U2 and INXS. Maybe it's the era or maybe it's the alphabetic names. I don't know. But in my musically warped mind they are forever linked. And here is my take.I have never, ever connected with U2. Just like Radiohead, Interpol, and Muse...I can see the talent and i would never begrudge anyone liking them, but these bands do nothing for me. Whereas INXS rocked my world as I was growing up. Maybe it's because there songs are a little more pop savvy, making them instantly accessible, I have no clue. But I know that do in fact, to this day, love INXS.Thanks you...I'll be here all week.PSAnd that band that picked their new lead singer on a reality show ARE NOT INXS to me

  3. Viva La Britt says All weekend I've been eyeballing the INXS _Shine Like it Does_ anthology and considering uploading it on the other M. Now, if I do that, it'll look like I'm jocking your style...I never win. Bygones- INXS is a band I wish I were old enough to appreciate when they were in their prime. The band is/was comprised of extremely talented rhythm section and a frontman who was just magic- a complete natural on stage and on wax. Damn Universal- they won't allow the "Elegantly Wasted video":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWI9fuwj5eM to be embedded.

  4. Dale says Hmm, odd. Given your love for singer/songwriter types, I would have figured you to love the earnestness of U2 more than the dancey flightiness of INXS. Go fig. I liked both of 'em, myself.

  5. SatisfiedMind614 says I am nothing if not inconsistent...I gave up trying to figure myself out YEARS ago Dale! And Brit...sorry, but its not really i fair fight...i have SO MUCH free time on my hands...its only a matter of time until I have posted about every band I have ever listened too

  6. Viva La Britt says Ha, that eases my mind a bit. A week or so from now, you'll be so busy exploring your new surroundings I'm thinking we won't see much of you, so post away brotha.

  7. Librarianguish says Wooo! What a showcase of 80's hair! I always loved this video, but for the cats on the table (I will be the crazy old lady with 50 cats, don't you know). I was lucky, got to see INXS live once. Michael Hutchence was so hot - he moved like a cobra. I can't remember ever seeing any other man move his hips so well when he dances. I always really liked them, and am trying to find my fave video from those earliest mtv days. So, uh Blair...have you or can you upload the really early INXS? I feel a big 80's revival coming on...

  10. ciphermedia says I used to see INXS when I was still at school, before their first album came out. I distinctly remember seeing them in about '79 at one of the universities here. There were about 120 people in the audience. However, as they became more popular, they refined their sound into something I wasn't really into. (I was more into The Birthday Party/Nick Cave and industrial music than stadium rock). I worked on a couple of their music videos when I was a camera assistant in the film industry here, and then some years later, working as a cinematographer, shot some of the last footage of them at an industry performance in a very small rehearsal studio before they went on tour. A short time later Michael died. As a result, the footage has never been seen in public. I still have it somewhere. (Oh, and I never got paid for the job either...)

  12. contrabandwidth says Funny, I've never cared much for either INXS or U2. I've only recently seen U2 live on TV and thought they look like they would put on a good concert, but for the most part I never really got over the hype. INXS never really struck a chord either. But when ??Pablo Honey?? came out, I definitely thought they sounded like U2. Fortunately that changed with ??The Bends?? and even more so with ??OK Computer??. I just never connected with either band - maybe because when they blew up, I was into hair metal.

  13. Mike the Knife says Gots to say that I was an unabashed INXS fan in all their pop-rockin' glory (and have enjoyed much - but not all - of the U2 canon). Was extremely bummed about Hutchence's death. He always struck me as the commercial Aussie equivalent of Jim Morrison. In fact, if you took Hutchence, somehow melded him with Nick Cave, and expunged the down-under accent, you actually would have HAD Morrison.
