YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

Its not TV, it's 'John From Cincinnati'

Posted over 2 years ago
Anyone else watching the new Sunday night drama on HBO, 'John From Cincinnati'?I am beyond hooked! I am not a television watcher, so for me to make a point to watch something every week means I really must like it. I am loving this show. I am digging the whole surfing as religion metaphor it has evolving...and I LOVE the fact that I have no idea what is going to happen next. Anything that makes me think a little bit, i can get into...and this has me thinking and rethinking what I th think i know! My best guess so far is that they youngest Yost boy is some sort of Messiah...with John being like a guardian angel...anyone else have any theories?Must see tv indeed...

  1. gympumpkin says I haven't seen it, but I want to. I plan to maybe catch up tomorrow or over the weekend. I'm also 3 episodes behind on Big Love.

  2. SatisfiedMind614 says Big love has been much better this season! I liked it last year, but WAY more conflict this time around...do you have On Demand? John is not one of those shows you can join late! I have watched the entire season and I am a bit confused sometimes....so many characters

  3. gympumpkin says I do have On Demand, so I'll be able to check out everything from the beginning. On Demand is my downfall. Becuase I know I can watch shows pretty much whenever I want, I tend to not watch them when they air live. The only show I'm watching as it airs right now is Flight of the Conchords.

  5. NeilNathan says john was created by david milch, who did deadwood, easily the most well written and gripping show i've ever seen such a tragedy that it was cancelled, as were my other favorites, arrested development and huff, argh! i love the ensemble cast thing, he did it so well with deadwood and it is so stimulating to be interested in so many different characters at once they also seem to be carrying over the monologue thing too, ian mcshane was magnificent with that kind of stuff in deadwood and it seems ed o'neil is taking over where he left off the drug dealer from hawaii and the doctor were both on deadwood in very different roles, great to see them stretch out i like your take on it blair, that's been my best guess as well but why is daddy floating? that is throwing a wrench in the whole thing luke perry and ed o'neil are both great too, in roles i wouldn't normally picture them in and rebecca demornay is bringing the emotion something fierce

  6. SatisfiedMind614 says Neil...great points all of them...man, i was living in a place without HBO during the Deadwood run...but you just sealed the deal, I NEED to watch those...are they still on demand....or on DVD maybe? I can't figure out the levitation thing too...and I love the Ed O Neil monolouge's...so cool to have narration from one of the characters on the fringes of everything that is happening...

  7. NeilNathan says not sure if they are still on demand, but definitely on dvd three seasons worth the writing and acting are just beyond the beyond it's like a new language, shakespearian wild west, filled with copious swearing

  8. chucky says I saw one episode when I was visiting my mom. It didn't do much for me, but I was also aware that I was missing something so it may be a case of not having seen earlier episodes to give it backstory.

  9. SatisfiedMind614 says Its one of those shows that either you like or you don't...no middle ground...there is SO much going on, i wouldn't blame anyone for not liking it...it just happens to be right down my alley

  10. Ashleyness says I just stayed up a bit later than planned to catch the reairing of day 3, love it. This show just gets better. Unfortunately, I don't have hbo at my new place, nor can i afford it, so I'll have to play catch up when I head home every so often. :/
