WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Happy Fathers Day

Posted over 2 years ago
I don't think I ever appreciated the music loving side of my dad when I was growing up. I guess I was like most kids, thinking that by default anything my parents listened to COULD IN NO WAY be good. But now that it has been almost ten years since my dad passed away, i realize that I owe a large portion of my love for music to him. Dad was an Elvis man for sure. The king was his king. He loved Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison too, artists that I have grown to love as I got older, and once I stopped trying to be hip.So this one is for on this him on this Father's Day. Thanks dad...you were way cooler than I ever gave you credit for

  1. deadmandeadman says I could have written this post. Except my dad had NO USE for rock n roll in any way. But he loved music, and he liked it loud. And just like you, my friend, I have discovered that "his" music can be as satisfying as mine, sometimes more so. So I salute you, satisfied mind, in your new found wisdom.

  5. SteveAllen says This is sweet, Blair...your comments and the song. You've talked about your family, but I didn't know your dad was gone. So since I'm his generation, and started out on Elvis myself, and since it's Fathers' Day, I just want to give you the support that I think he might give you. This is it: You're young; you're single; you were unhappy with your work and with where you're living...so GO FOR IT! Move to California; see what kind of work you can find in music; meet people; explore; see what happens! Like someone said a while back, your family is concerned and afraid because they love you, and they're afraid you're making a mistake. But also remember: a mistake isn't the end of the world anyway, especially at your age. You're supposed to be making mistakes. It's how you learn and find things out. So come on out to California (and if you don't like SoCal, try the Bay Area)! At the least, it will be a great adventure.

  6. leftoverking says my third father's day, and i am fully taking advantge of the right to do fuck all (absolutely nothing) with my day. my dad was all about johnny cash, marty robbins, and eddie albert. for not being able to hardly carry a tune, my old man raised five musical kids. we all play at least one instrument.

The older I get, the more of my Da I see in me & my habits... seem much more like my Mum, but he & I share so much sometimes it's scary. Love of music (though not always in agreement on the band/artist) that's probably one of the best gifts I've ever received - guess he knows me pretty well :) NOTHER HUG comin, don't duck :)
