The therapeutic power of rock n roll

Talking to some of my friends and family about my impending move to California is sometimes like banging my head up against a wall. They just can't imagine that are other ways to live your life that don't entail minivans and bingo nights. It is is insanely frustrating to talk in circles about why I am doing this...the ones who get it, totally get it...but those who don't think I am driving off into a black hole.They stress me out to no end...but i got off the phone...and played this song as loud as I could, and all was right. The amazing healing power of rock n roll.

    amber says The unknown is frightening for some and exhilarating to others, and a combo of both to most. Your friends and family want the best for you but might refuse to accept that what was their choice for their futures isn't what you want too, and maybe they might, deep down inside, view that as criticism from you. They may also be secretly jealous of your freedom...they may not even realize they are jealous (I'm in touch with my feelings: I KNOW I'm jealous of your freedom). Just know they will wish you well in the end and will most likely support your choices because they love you. And old friends that don't support your choices? Well, how good of friends are those? Like you say: find what you love and do it for the rest of your life. You just can't go wrong with that.

    debi says Blair - although I'm not quite old enough to be your mother, I do want to say that your posts are helping me to understand my own 25 yr old son who is living life 'differently' than I had planned when he was a child. I've learned to accept his ability to pay his bills by temp jobs, poker playing and living with a much older gf :) ..and yes it may be partly jealousy that I chose to do the typical college/marriage/motherhood/career path He doesn't know that in part he has Mog to thank for my being more loving and accepting of his life. Thanks !

    SatisfiedMind614 says Thanks Debi...i love my mom to death, but she just doesn't understand the how i feel. People are different...there is a reason some people get into rock n roll bands...its a way of life...i totally get that now...for me, office work was like a prison

    Betherz247 says I totally know what u mean, literally almost every week one of my family members tries to talk me into moving back to Iowa (and not gonna lie when things get rough, and they do get really rough sometimes, it sounds mighty tempting, but won't solve anything). People who have lived in a smaller community their whole life and like it that way just don't get that there's so much more out there to do and to explore. So unfortunately it probably won't change but that's when u just have to strike out there, succeed (and you will) and make them really think about what they are doing in their lives!

    SatisfiedMind614 says Exactly...that is why i am moving so far away...i spent fart too long living in the shadows of other peoples expectations...so long that it was hard to see the light...they just can't grasp the idea of living and not working an 9-5 job....i have made peace with the fact that they think I am crazy, and I have never been happier

I think all the Moggers know you can make it happen. maybe, you could start writing for Rolling Stone and give it some credibility. i'm a bit worried though. now you're an EMCD _and_ an inspiration. :-/ Kudos on your song choice btw, when i saw The Thermals they opened with Here's Your Future and two minutes into the show it was obviously gig of the year.

    Jonh Ingham says Jon Bon Jovi was on breakfast telly a couple of days ago and in the conversation parted with this advice: Two things if you want to be cool. Never leave home without sunglasses. Never buy a minivan. Whatever the virtues or not of JBJ, I'm sure he knows about sunglasses and minivans. Parents worry when their kids take the "foggy" route. Hang in there; it's a great adventure. Great song BTW.
