    haggardpilot says a few weeks ago my brother called me and begged me to burn him a copy of The Downward Spiral (he's ten years younger than me and it takes a lot for him to get interested in a band new to him). I did so, and brought it to him. he listened to it once, then took it out, handed it back to me and said, "no thanks. too weird." and walked away.

    Augusts1 says NIN RULES! Love this song & vid. Btw, I'm year of the rat, how much lower can you get than that, lol? Britt, what's so strange about this vid? It's just a live performance vid & this is tame & normal compared to their other vids, lol. The fascination w/pigs is that they wallow in dirt but are also symbolic of the mainstream population--greediness, blindly following, eating anything that get in their way. NINs are nihilists & don't give a f**k about anything, that's the whole idea behind the band. They play up the seedier side of life.

    Dale says Wow, listen to August get all philosophical on our tails. I lurved this album when it came out, but it was the first album I had to edit to make palatable. Since I was on cassettes at the time, it was a cumbersome process, involving finding an AM band with lots of static, and following the lyric sheet while copying from one cassette to another, then switching to the AM band for the naughty words. I know, I'm a prude, deal.

    Viva La Britt says Dale, I have no words. And have we no choice _but_ to deal? :P Augusts1, thank you fo breaking it down for me, sir. The video struck me as odd as far as the audio (the studio track was not used), the guys are all knocking into each other, and those two random folks entering the performance space- all very uncharacteristic of the controlled chaos I'm used to seeing from NIN. Ha, does it speak volumes that this video puts me on edge but the vid for "Closer" is, like, my mental screensaver?

    Augusts1 says I was born in the year of the Rat! How much lower than that can you get, lol? Britt, that vid is nothing compared to what they are like in concert! I've not seem them live(I'd hate to deal w/so many goth kids in one place, heh) but I have a video companion to "The Downward Spiral" called "Closure" which is a double vhs(I still didn't have a DVD back in '94). One tape has a documentary w/live performances, interviews, behind the scenes & the other tape is their music vids. Anyway, their live performances get pretty wild w/ Trent & crew destroying their instruments & running into one another all over the stage, even stage diving into the crowd. And yes, that speaks VOLUMES that the "Closer" vid is your mental screensaver, you twisted sistah, lolol!
