WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT

I'm a 21st century digital boy

When you buy a 60gig MP3 player, in your mind you will have enough storage for every song ever recorded. But as I have been creeping towards maxing out on my capacity I have to be oh so selective as to what makes the cut, and what doesn'tJust a quick example of how things have changed. I used to LOVE those hidden tracks at the end of a CD...but today as I was uploading Urge Overkill's 'Saturation' onto my player I remembered that the last track, Heaven 90210 is 28 minutes long due to one of those hidden gems. And as much as I love that song, i didn't move it over to my player...too much space. I will mess around with one of those mp3 editing programs and eventually trim it down, but It just struck me as a total 180..what i used to call quirky fun, is now pretentious and stupid! I am digitally jaded

  1. MrFrost says Ive learned to be ultra economical with my ipod space. I've been on a deleting spree for the last few weeks. Trimming all the fat. if i dont think i'll want to hear a song at least once a month, it gets kicked off my computer. which sucks in some cases, but its working for me

  2. SatisfiedMind614 says ah...so you kind of have the revolving door system? Nice....i think i will end up going that way too...in with the new, out with the old

  3. B42 says Easy, buy another iPod.... and an external hard drive, and hire a band to play in your garage on Friday nights!

  4. MrFrost says just to clarify, i never permanently delete any of my music. I have it all backed up on dvd discs... so they arent gone forever... but just gone for the time being. i liken it to baseball player being demoted to Triple-A

  5. chucky says Luckily, I am no where near filling up my ipod yet. I am not sure what I'll do when that day comes. I don't even want to think about it.

  8. Hmmm says That new 80 gig iPod is starting to look pretty sexy to me... I've been shrinking my library little by little over the past few months by converting them to AAC, then checking back and deleting most of the gigantic mpeg's (of course, this wouldn't take so long if all aac's were smaller- sometimes they just aren't. So I have to check each and every one). Frustrating, yet rewarding- I freed up a good 10 gigs, without having to delete anything!

  9. mutterimieli says My 30gig has overflowed. I've had to tweak to get what I want on there but it's pretty sloppy, one day I'm going to have to quit being lazy and actually put my over 6,000 song on iTunes in some sort of order.

  11. Origami says Getting an 80gig iPod in a bit, and honestly hadn't thought of how hard it will be to downsize to that. Now I'm mildly concerned...but only mildly. :)

  12. Origami says I completely forgot to mention: I love that album. For one brief moment, UO matched their own legends: the "Super Rock" poses, the pretentious costumes and sneering, the nicknames...their self idolatry as bigger than the music yet the hardest rocking band alive made sense. For about 8 months, then pffft. But I still listen to this record a lot.

  13. Augusts1 says Origami, UO was great but just the latest flavor of the year. I liked most of the songs I heard of theirs but not enought to buy it. We as music fans are so inundated w/new music & bands it's easy to be fickle. I'm always looking for "interesting" & new sounds & get tired fast of the latest trendy music. It's been pretty cool being on Mog cause it's been forcing me to go back & listen to stuff that I haven't in years.

  14. SatisfiedMind614 says That was the whole point....to work in a totally non related musical reference to the post...what fun would it be to be so straightforward
