WHERE THE HOKEY POKEY "IS" WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT

Missed connections

Posted over 3 years ago
Is anyone else here semi-obsessed with the Missed Connections section on Craigslist or your local alternative newspaper? You know the things I am talking about...here is one I cut and pasted right off the the Columbus section on Craigslist:we passed in the frozen dinner section and you ended up behind me in line while checking out. I had on the red and white baseball shirt and you were wearing the white top with blue sweats. anyways, i didn't get the chance to ask you your name let alone a number. Here's to hoping you see this and reply back! Does this EVER work? I don't think so...but it is still my dream to be somone's missed connection!!! I think it is fascinating how two people can participate in the exact same situation and one person sees it as love at first sight, while the other person is probably totally oblivious! And as this is mog, I even came up with a perfect Missed Connections song..."Always On My Mind" by Phantom Planet? Feel free to share em if you got em....http://mog.com/music/Phantom_Planet/The_Guest/Always_On_My_Mind

  1. Manos says Best case scenario. We smiled at each other as you pushed your cart past mine. I immediately felt a bit of a jolt, more than just a nod from one shopper to another. But, things being what they are, I wrote it off as you turned the corner at the end of the aisle. Then, standing in line, there you were again. I could have sworn you sped up toward the line I was in when you saw me, making sure you were right behind me but trying to play it cool. We made small talk, and it was obvious we were both building toward some sort of decision. Maybe, because we're both shy, we were hoping the other would say, "so...". But the store was busy and the checker was grumpy and I couldn't find my checkbook and you forgot to grab pita bread. The moment - and I'm sure there was one - was lost. I thought of you all the way home and beyond. Now, maybe I'm a romantic, but I think there's a good chance that both of those people would at least consider checking the Missed Connections section of the paper. God, I hope so.

  2. Kid Charming says I've always been fascinated by personal ads in general (at least in print — online personal ads tend to be less interesting), and I do love those Missed Connections. We make fun of them all the time, 'coz we're still waiting for some guy to post one and just 'fess up: Sunday afternoon, the corner grocery. I was wearing jeans and a Led Zeppelin t-shirt, you had blonde hair, a white blouse and denim skirt. I completely choked and could just stare at you as you stood in line in front of me, but I thought you were majorly hot. Would you like to be my girlfriend, even if I am a putz?

  3. SatisfiedMind614 says Ha!! I knew I couldn't be alone!! I always think of that part of 'Ghost World' when they prank poor Steve Buschemi's character...brutally funny! Really...if anyone anywhere knows if this has EVER worked, please let me know!

  4. 82times says The ones in Austin were always like... _I saw you at wal-mart in round rock [a suburb] and I was wearing a grey hoodie and you were buying sweatpants._ or _I saw you in the wal-mart parking lot in pflugerville [other suburb]. i was the guy pushing all the carts back into the store and you had orange sweatpants on._ I swear to god. walmart and sweatpants every time.
