Ticketmaster conspiracy theory #19

Posted over 2 years ago
Has anyone checked into any connections between Ticketmaster and the companies that make the ink jet cartridges for computer printers? In an attempt to 'expedite' the whole concert ticket purchasing process I just print off all of my own tickets now, which for some reason still costs me money. But I don't have to worry about having my tickets lost in the mail. Come to think about it, the US Post Office may be mixed up in this too...I swear I go through one of those Ink Cartridges a week because Ticketmaster makes every square inch of that page say SOMETHING in a bright color. I am willing to bet that Ticketmaster is in cahoots with the office supply companies that make those things...i am sure of it.THE MAN will find a way to make you pay at every turn if you don't keep your eyes on the prize ;-)

  2. SatisfiedMind614 says Ah yes....i forgot about the convenience of being routinely price gouged! I guess I could use Will Call...but then I wouldn't be able to complain

  3. Jonh Ingham says Saw a news story today that American families are encountering the world of 'second tier ticketing' for the first time, thanks to the popularity of High School Musical. Suddenly they're learning that a $50 ticket can go for $500. The amazing bit of news is that there are over 80 second tier companies like StubHub. Apparently this brush with reality has got parents so mad that they're starting to lobby any politician that will listen. Sure to become another entertaining part of the music business descent.

  4. SatisfiedMind614 says The entire ticketing system is SO flawed...promoters and sponsors get such a high percentage of the tickets, and those ALWAYS end up in the hands of ticket brokers, who then just drive the prices sky high...funny that it takes High School The Musical to make the people in power realize that something may be amiss here! We are the least proactive country in the world, man. How is the ticketing system in the UK....surely not perfect, but it has to be better than ours

  5. Misstee says in most cases they don't allow you to use will call....unless its 2 days before the show...otherwise that would ALWAYS be my choice...I lose things even concert tickets.

  6. SatisfiedMind614 says Oh...i have done that twice...that was the one time TM was actually helpful...they were really good about replacing my lost tickets...but man, they should be for the sky rocketing surcharges

  7. Jonh Ingham says In the UK there were about 5 competing agencies before Ticketmaster came in. Plus there are loads of ticket offices around town. So TM can only charge about $7 commission on a ticket sale. No convenience charge, no printing fee for printing the ticket on your own printer. The most I've paid in charges is about $10 a ticket. The power of competition is an amazing thing. Of course, you still have to go to EBay to get those sold out shows.

  8. Kate says For future ink cartridge savings, you can print out your tickets in black ink and they will accept them just as easily as the brightly colored ones. That's what I did with the Wilco ticket you so kindly passed on to me!

  9. SatisfiedMind614 says Ah....very wise Kate...didn't even think of that, yeah its only the color cartridge that runs out...i will go back to black, it's classic anyway

  10. contrabandwidth says I remember back in the days of the Grateful Dead, there was a pretty popular rumor that the mafia owned Ticketmaster. This would explain their monopoly and egregious "service" charge. Reminds me of the protection money you pay the mob to protect yourself from them. Perhaps Mr. Vedder and co. met Don Corleone and were told that it would be best to lay off of the whole ticketmaster thing.

  12. The Time Machine says

Went to a $20 performance in Los Angeles a few months back that unfortunately could only have a ticket purchased thru Ticketmaster. I already made the decision to go and purchased an airline ticket but wasn't happy that the ticket final cost was $47. I opted to pick up my ticket at the box office. Don't know if the printing costs of doing it myself would have rounded out the ticket price at $50. Regardless...it was a drag dealing with a ticket that ended up being more than twice the cost of what was advertised.

Then again...my airline ticket had a bunch of fees added to it as well that was nearly another $60 so I guess I really shouldn't be surprised.

At least when I've bid on tickets online from eBay (which may have come scalpers and discounters) I actually ended up with tickets prices lower than the face value of the ticket. How strange is that?
