WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Bring me your hidden audio gems from the 90's, won't you?

Posted over 2 years ago
I am a Sirius satellite radio subscriber, and I love the service to death. But the 90's alternative channel needs some serious tuning up. I applied (unsolicited of course)for the job of program director on that channel...shockingly, Sirius hasn't returned my call yet :-)But I digress. The station is perfect in concept, but in practice they only play like 20 bands...basically Oasis, all things Seattle, Bush, and a couple of others...so much of the really good stuff is left out. It's like how VH1 would remember the 90's...If you get a second, post a song or video of your favorite 90's hidden gem on this thread. The only parameters are that it had to be released in the 90's and a song you NEVER hear on the radio anymore...but when you do, it makes you so happy. Here is mine...one of the sorta one hit wonder bands...to be an indie rock hit, in my opinion, your song had to be played by Matt Pinfield on 120 minutes...that was like the epitomy of 'making it' to me back in the day.

  6. SatisfiedMind614 says Hum….one of my VERY favorite one hit wonders! Never liked much else they did…but man, they caught lightning in a bottle for those 5 minutes didn’t they? Which is still more than most bands are ever able to do...

  10. contrabandwidth says Here was a rare little industrial gem that I discovered through a promo when I worked in a record store. It was on Trent Reznor's nothing label. The lead singer of Prick has the misfortune of looking like a cross between Scott Stapp and Trent Reznor.

  31. SatisfiedMind614 says Seriously....if I ever did become a program director of a satellite radio station, Morphine would have it's own channel....Morphine Radio....love the sound of that....and Mark Sandman's brilliance would live forever

  32. Strawberry Street says For me it is Babybird 'You're Gorgeous' It is never played in Australia EVER! But I love love love it and it reminds me of the days listening to Triple J and discovering music that lit up my life eg. Jeff Buckley

  33. SatisfiedMind614 says SS...i have never heard of this....but since you mentioned it in the same paragraph as Jeff Buckley, i know it has to be good....i will now go on a musical scavenger hunt

  34. contrabandwidth says I was so gonna post some Morphine! Hey maybe we can do one better than a SEEERIOUS channel, could we get Hyman to strike up our own programmed channels with Hype Machine? I mean more than the "most read posts" ones. I mean this channel would be so kick ass! I would be listening to this at work for sure. There's some real gems here.

  39. SatisfiedMind614 says Pavement is another band that will have it's own channel when I become king of satellite radio! This is most excellent...i am seriously going to email this link to Sirius

  40. Bartleby says SM, you should not call the tune because you know all the (wannabe) pipers of MOG play for free... So here's my modest contribution: Pull The Wires From The Wall ~ The Delgados [1998] (I wanted Under "Canvas Under Wraps" from their debut album - maybe I'll post it on my MOG some day) Heaven Or Las Vegas ~ Cocteau Twins [1990] Fade Into You ~ Mazzy Star [1993] I better stop here before I get arrested for anachronistic humming.

  41. Lizziegreeneyes says New Mistake ~ Jellyfish (could never get enough of this band, Andy Sturmer=genius in my opinion) Pain Lies on the Riverside ~ Live (hometown band I've been seeing live since Mental Jewelry :) I Wanted "*+Tommy the Cat+*":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yn3uiLZY9Jg ... Primus (but _MY NAME IS MUD_) heh

  42. Strawberry Street says Don't get too excited about Babybird, SM. They were UK indie pop/rock so nothing like Jeff, but the song makes me happy when I hear it and reminds me of the 90's where I was just beginning to discover the wide world of music. No one comes close to Jeff though!

  43. SatisfiedMind614 says So true...we will never, EVER hear a voice again like his :-(
    Permalink posted 09/26/2007
  44. Lizziegreeneyes says There will never be another... Grace is easily on my Top 5, even go as far as to say Top 3 albums & always will stay at that top for me. (He & Glen slice through all the pretention & are all about the music channeling through them) - and it did/does with such _GRACE_. I give that kind of spiritual vibe to Tweedy, Duritz, Cash & Vedder has always had that pull for me as well... too many to mention that are gifted - but these men tear at my soul & rock me to sleep. I miss Jeff everyday & I know you know what I am talking about SatisfiedMind !!
