YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

So Long

'The best thing in the world is to love someone and they love you back'What a simple sentiment, but I don't think I have ever it phrased like that in a song before. Meet Jason Anderson. What a great songwriter. I think it's his attention to detail that gives him so much credibility with me. Sort of how I feel about the Hold Steady and Clem Snide...their angst filled songs name places and name names...making the songs instantly easy to identify with. They don't sing about grandiose emotions in a general, or vague way...they tell stories. Here is my favorite tune off of Mr Anderson's new record 'Tonight'

  1. indiepixie says hmmm like that concept- as well as the song. I think a lot of artists have forgotten that sometimes the simplest stories- those that reflect greek myths, biblical tales, shakespeare common idoims, -love found and lost, envy, vanity, selflessness vs selfishness- are the most powerful.

  2. SatisfiedMind614 says Amen. Just something so sincere when you a hear someone singing about listening to Elliot Smith records with an old flame...who can't relate to that?

  3. jenny says Blair, you've got to go see him live. It's so fun...sort of a lo-fi springsteen experience. I mogged about it a year or so ago...that's how I met Rob, from his cranky comment. (The first of many, I might add.) Here's a link, if you're interested: http://mog.com/jenny/blog_post/9611 I so miss the Flywheel.

  5. gympumpkin says great stuff. I bet that song is great live, with the whole crowd singing. If he comes to Chicago I will have to go hear him just for that.

  7. SatisfiedMind614 says I was thinking the same thing Andi...it would be an awesome way to close the show...reminds me a lot of that Frames song People Get Ready

  8. Mike the Knife says Ya freaked me out with the title of that post, Blair. Hard to imagine MOG without your input and enthusiasm. That said, the song was a "wow." Although more toungue-in-cheek and tied into a specific time, place and popular culture, it made me think of Tom Rush's "No Regrets," and that's high praise from me.

  11. Lizziegreeneyes says *blair:* you have my heart swelling with the song from Jason Anderson & _of course_ People Get Ready... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, lovely !!! Is it just me, or do you also love when they mention artists you love as well - When OK GO sing about the second side of Surfer Rosa & follow up with a "UK Surf Mix" emulating the Pixies Wave of Mutilation "UK Surf Mix" - I knew they would be a band I would love for life... Every time I hear Glen & the lads break into a Pixies cover, happiness of an immense proportion ensues !!!

  12. SatisfiedMind614 says Ha....i catch myself listening to this song all the time! I think it has been played 102 times, and 51 of those are me!! I always love it when bands name check other bands...like when Snow Patrol names Sufjan Stevens in 'Hands Open'....sort of humanizes the band for me...like hey, i love that record too!

  13. Lizziegreeneyes says yeah... we become even more intertwined when we share a love/appreciation with a band or artist !!! Tori Amos is great that way too... NIN get a couple of nods from her & Neil Gaiman. I love going back to my posts & playing the songs or videos - it's great as a background music & there is no doubt that I love the songs I post about... it's like a doublestuff oreo(TM) only less shortening & more sweetness ;)
