Let it be

I was never one to patiently pick up broken fragments and glue them together again and tell myself that the mended whole was as good as new. What is broken is broken, and I'd rather remember it as it was at its best than mend it and see the broken places as long as I lived.- Margaret Mitchell I have probably started a hundred posts with that quote. Sorry. But it's one of my favorites. It made me slightly sad today to read that Blind Melon were reforming and preparing a tour and an album with a new singer. In my mind, Blind Melon died with Shannon Hoon. Such a unique voice and style...how do you replace that? I can understand the surviving band members wanting to keep going and creating music together...but i wish they would do it under another name and in a new direction...it just feels artificial to me to see bands like INXS, Alice In Chains, and others who have taken this path...i want no part of it.I hope they get what ever they are trying to get out of the experience...it is after all their music, but I will sit this one out. Here is one for Shannon...Blind Melon's cover of the Velvet Underground classic 'Candy Says'

  1. Lizziegreeneyes says I am with you on this topic blair. I hate when a band, after losing an integral part of the whole - keep the name & go on as if the loss doesn't affect the name & who they are. A loss like that of Shannon or Layne or Michael - these are too great to keep the name. It's how I personally feel - if the remaining band members want to keep playing etc., I'd rather they do so under a new name. Great song selection !

  2. Dale says I wonder how many people said that about AC/DC, and look how that turned out. Just sayin', it doesn't _have_ to suck.
