MELT-PROOF AND SCRATCH-RESISTANT

The Frames @ The Music Box...in a word,...WOW!

Posted over 2 years ago
I am hereby elevating Glen Hansard to 'Mt Rushmore' status on my own personal sliding scale of favorite artists. He joins the likes of my other heroes...Jeff Tweedy, Eddie Vedder, Craig Finn...and a few more favorites.I really don't ask much of my favorite artists. Just love what you do and appreciate the platform you have. Glen Hansard and the Frames seemed SO genuinelyecstatic to be on stage last night. It was one of the better musical nights of my life...just an absolute buzz from the first song, to the final number...which just happened to be a an incredible rendition of the Pixies 'Where Is My Mind?'I am still basking in the afterglow of the performance...I have always loved the Frames music, but after last night I am a bigger fan than ever.An incredible night...so many highlights. My favorite moment may have been when he pulled a young girl out of the audience to sing 'Falling Slowly' with him....just him and his guitar and the fan...and she did SO well!! A beautiful moment, really!OK...i will stop rambling and play a song

  1. gympumpkin says I'm glad they were awesome! I'm going to see them tomorrow. It's part of a two-day block party thing for charity, and I think they are doing only a 1-hour set because they aren't tomorrow's headliner I don't think.

  2. Lizziegreeneyes says *blair* you gave me full-body chills my friend !!! This is the experience I've had everytime I see Glen, Colm, Rob, Joe & Johnny :) I actually went to see +_Once_+ last night with a friend who I converted to The Frames way of life - she adored the movie - while in the theatre, I remembered you'd be seeing the lads live while we were watching Glen & Marketa ignite the movie screen... looks like a great night all around - but I would have been a far happier camper to have seen them with you !!! Boggles my mind that they haven't caught on fully here in the states - we need to start a grassroots campaign for The Frames !!! *+People Get Ready+* - isn't that one hell of an anthem ??? & when they end the night with a Pixies song - hell if a Pixies song is anywhere in the mix - lizzie is the greenesteyedgirl around :) Did you get a taste of Johnny Cash in there as well ? When he rocks a little bit of Ring of Fire - good stuff. Think we'll have to plan a trip to Chicago for their next US tour - Rob hails from there & when they have a show at his homebase & where many of their friends reside - they blow the roof off - A +*must see*+ for me someday !!! He's definitely my Mt Rushmore - moreso that Layne... moreso than Black Francis... there is something so charismatic & warm & genuine in Glen that he holds a place in my musical heart that no one else will ever hold. *YAY BLAIR !!!!!!!!*

  3. SatisfiedMind614 says 'We have all the time in the world to get it right...' Hearing the entire room singing those words as the band played was so beautiful...I have seen a LOT of shows in my life...and this was without a doubt one of most amazing. Lizzie, count me in for your next Frames road trip...i need more live Frames NOW!

  4. Lizziegreeneyes says Do you have Setlist from them ??? It is easily one of my favorite live recordings... but then again - it's from my favorite band ;) *"We have all the love in the world to set alight to set alight..."* I was moved to tears the first time they sang this - the whole crowd singing along... but the one that killed me was when they played Mic Christopher's skylarkin at the end of the EP. Did Glen sing any of his songs... Heyday & Skylarkin are the two I've seen live. Matt Nathanson has a similar story & from another Irish band - U2. Boston, Achtung Baby tour, they sang One - had the entire stadium singing with them & then "one" at a time - the lads leave - the crowd kept singing long after they left the stage. Seeing something like that with your favorite band, & hearing Glen say that they too never wanted that weekend to end so just keep singing... gets me teary now just thinkin on it !!! I have to get Sean (Ahfeckit on MOG) to upload a few of the photos from the Electric Picnic. He's a hell of a photographer :) Woo hoo ROAD TRIP with BLAIR !!! (I +KNEW+ you had to go to this show over the other... if it's ever a question of someone else VS The Frames - it's bycicle boy & his merry bandmates that win hands down every single time) ;) I could write oodles more about this band... but I won't... just know that it truly means the world to me that you are as enamoured (or close to as enamoured) as I am with this band - especially live - they are in their element & they are my favorite lads !!! To have a favorite MOGger enjoying them - that's what it's all about !!!!

  6. SatisfiedMind614 says I love your enthusiasm SO much lizzie! I smile from start to finish while reading your posts and comments!! I wish I would have written down the set list, but i was so lost the the moment...another thing I love about Glen, he does such a great job of telling you the back story behind the songs...as a big fan, that means so much to me....he just totally connects to the audience. These boys definitely have raised the bar as far as what I expect from a rock band...i still can't stop replaying the show over and over again in my mind...a beautiful night

  10. River Lethe says I kinda like the fact that they haven't become overblown here in the states. I don't want them to become the next Snow Patrol, whom I listened to for years before they blew up everywhere due to that Gray's Anatomy episode. Not that a band stops being amazing if they get popular, but it's somehow more special for those of us that already know their greatness.

  11. Lizziegreeneyes says *River:* You know I hear you on that aspect... but I know from talking with the lads at shows in Philly - that they really want to have a larger audience, so I join then in that hope/desire. There is always something to be said about _having a band that you hold dear & that don't have a wide audience - like you're all in on a secret that the masses don't know_ but for me, if I know it's what the band/artist wants & even more so, if I know they +should+ have a larger audience - when they are *THAT* good, I want to share them with the world :) Don't think they will ever become another Snow Patrol (love that band as well) - The Frames are much harder in sound than Gary L. & his mates. SP have more pop in their rock - pop meaning popular - it's a good thing in my eyes. If someone tries to tell me that the crap on the top 40 countdown is pop music - it may be with the drones - but will never be pop_ular_ to me. The Frames are totally unique in sound & when live (my opinion) & will never fit into the type of mold/sound that Snow Patrol have.

  12. Viva La Britt says Damn, that had to be one hell of a Frames set- poor Eleni was totally omitted from the review. I would so be in love with Glen Hansard but not for the fact he's boning his nineteen-year-old _Once_ costar- grossness.

  13. Lizziegreeneyes says hey... love is love - at least she's legal... she did have to go back & take her high school finals during the press for the film ;)
