YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

So much for the afterglow

Now today...today I didn't like LA. It was just one of THOSE days. If there was a wrong turn to take, i took it. Seriously...everything I did today screamed NEW GUY IN TOWN. Just one of those days. I felt like a total fish out of water! I am not sure that until today I realized that I had moved from a city in the Midwest, population(if we are counting ALL the suburbs) is near 500,000 I am guessing... to the greater Los Angeles area's 12 million. And I think I may have pissed off about 9 million of them on the roads today....sorry! I was hit with every bad LA cliche today too...the uber tanned surfer guy in the BMW cutting me off while his is closing some big deal on his blackberry....zooming in and out of lanes. Then I calmly pulled over and told myself that I came here for the music. I have no desire to get caught up in the bullshit that is never far from the surface in this town. A few deep breaths and a diet coke later...all was well. Its an endless array of peaks and valleys here...good for keeping you on your toes, but bad for the blood pressure!I just thought I had to post this...in the name of full disclosure! If this was an network pilot or a WB show all would be well...but the reality is, it is a just guy who uprooted his comfortable life in Ohio in search of something bigger and brighter and more beautiful...and there are bound to be bumps along the way, Today the bumps were bigger than I had had to deal with before...but the sun has set on this episode of my so called new life...and in Hollywood hope springs eternal!

  2. ngtivspace says Hey there - I've been in LA five years and had basically the same day today. They won't happen too often, I promise. (And if they do, we have The Echo and Spaceland to help with the coping!) Seriously, welcome, I'm sorry it was annoying today.

  3. SatisfiedMind614 says Thanks...good to know it can happen to veterans too! It was just ONE of those days, ya know? Funny thing about this town, its really hard to stay in a bad mood...your eyes are always level with those amazing Hollywood hills and those houses...

  4. lmnop805 says ngtivspace speeks some truth...i had "one of those" weeks last week and the F*CK YEAH fest in Echo Park totally helped me out. And I really hope I wasn't the guy in the BMW cutting you off. Sad truth is the office follows you around. But it gets better and more ridiculous, you will see the actors studying their scripts while driving, thats when you know you're in LALA Land.

  5. SatisfiedMind614 says Haha....I know what you mean...on the good days the WEIRD stuff is just great LA Story fodder for everyone back home....but on the rare bad day...it's like EVERY cliche is popping up at you at every opportunity...its all part of the surreal bubble that hovers over this town!

  6. Jonh Ingham says A good pick me up is to take Laurel Cyn Blvd - doesn't matter if it's from the Valley to Hollywood or vice versa. The Valley side has those sweeping bends (and coming into the Valley the view as well) and the Hwd side takes you through all that greenery. Always worked for me.

  9. shayna says the fact that we encounter the asshole drivers (and we all do), and see all the warts of the city right on the surface (and sometimes right in front of our faces)... oddly enough, all of that is, what I've come to believe, what partly makes this place bearable. there are some cities that hide all the nasty aspects of humanity, while LA puts a spotlight on it and even takes a little pride in it. you know what you're getting here, what's available to you (including what you may not want), which is nice when you want to get straight to the core of things. anyway, hang in there... the bummer days ain't fun. that, I know. just consider your bad day an initiation into the city!

  10. Marco1019 says You made it out here! I'm so happy for you! It'll be 5 months for me on Monday. We'll have to share our respective LA stories soon. (I'm finally back on this site, hopefully on a daily or near-daily basis.)

  11. chucky says No matter where you are, you're going to have those days. I'd be surprised if it were all sunshine and bunny rabbits out there. As long as it's mostly sunshine and bunny rabbits, you're doing good. :)
