  2. amber says New Orleans is one of my favorite places on this earth and it just _kills_ me to think we haven't managed to rebuild it *2 YEARS* later. We are the richest country in the world, but we can't take care of our own, and that's just criminal. It is just _wrong_

  3. contrabandwidth says Great Track. Galactic are one of the most energetic bands around. I tend to prefer them just laying down a groove, but they know their funk. Despicable, the way this city was abandoned by those in charge, a state unable to respond properly due to equipment and personnel being deployed in another country, those in charge remaining on vacation while people died of exposure and dehydration. It still riles me up at how inept the response was. I've never been more ashamed of my leaders than that moment.

  4. steve simon says i have not seen them in years

  5. contrabandwidth says I had written them off when I heard the "cooling off" album, not really digging their singer. Now they tour sans singer, and I would say it was one of the best concerts I've seen in awhile. Def. one of those live bands that are better to experience than listen to on CD.

  6. ookpik says good track. i love how lyrics born *always* sounds relaxed. the only thing that disappoints me more than the official response to katrina is the way nobody managed to do anything about it. no coherent protest, no coherent alternative, no coherent action. there were like 5 minutes of passionate criticism on tv, and then back to normal. it's theatre.

  7. Mike the Knife says You are so right, ookpik. The aftermath of this whole misbegotten tragedy has been a global embarrassment to the U.S. - but, after the end of the news cycle, it was replaced by more celebrity gossip. As an American and a NoLa-phile, it's doubly galling to me. Long live New Orleans! Somehow... (Cool track by Galactic, Blair. It's inspired me to spin a track or two by their fellow New Orleans artists Mute Math.)

  8. RGM says We're scum to the govt' sorry to sound negative, but it is what it is. Wish it wasn't true, but I hear it too much...
