  2. Jess Horrible says This is a great list, and I like how a lot of the songs you've listed deal with feminist issues. Definitely agree with LadyC, too. How about some Bjork? And definitely check out Zap Mama.

  3. Sarah Dougher says patti is there (doing her version of Gloria) -- Chrissy Hyne is missing -- this is true -- thanks for the note! SD

  4. Michael Goldberg says I'd include these: The Shangri-Las The Ronettes Wanda Jackson Sister Rosetta Tharpe Janis Joplin, Ball & Chain The Bangles Holly Golightly I know you have a Janis track but I think the earlier recordings with Big Brother rock way more.

  5. Michael Goldberg says Bjork for sure! Also, Veruca Salt - "Seether" was a big indie hit and a great song. Liz Phair. Juliana Hatfield. The Breeders. Throwing Muses.

  6. Michael Goldberg says You know I bet Kira Roessler, who played bass in Black Flag, influenced a generation of young women to be in a band.

  7. Sarah Dougher says Great suggestions all. It is a difficult task to narrow it down to the content of three cds. That is my other puzzle. Michael, is there any way I can make a playlist that you could just down load? SD

  9. Wanbli says oops, a few more. These 2 in particular I feel are very important: Bonnie Raitt- shows that women can shred guitar Ani DiFranco - shows the power of empowering and controlling your career other women artists missing from your list: Joan Baez Joni Mitchell Joan Armatrading Ricki Lee Jones
