Kate Nash is the most exciting thing ive heard in ages. Hooray for her, This, her first release, is a double A-side like never before. 'Carolines a Victim' is a big beat, half sung, half rapped dance floor classic. With a great hook line of 'Killa killa killa killa beeeeat!'. It sounds so fresh, and of the moment that i get a buzz everytime i hear it, like i'm listening in to some new musical genre/movement happening. The other side is a total contrast. Hushed vocals, guitar picking and chimes, and a love song for the 21st century. Not to mention my favourite lyric ever:'Birds can fly so highand they can shit on your head. They can almost fly into your eyesand make you feel well scared. But when you look at them, and you see that they're beautiful, that's how i feel about you!'If that's not making you rush to www.myspace.com/katenashmusic, then, seriously, fuck off and listen to your Embrace records...Oh, and did i mention? Live, she is captivating. If you're partial to a bit of Streets, Ani Difranco, Fiona Apple, The Gossip, Lilly Allen, Dizzee Rascal and Annie (put all of these in a blender and you've got a sense of the Nash!), then you're gonna love this.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single.Go buy this single. My work here is done.

  1. dj ivi says okay, i rushed over there and listened. she's not my cup of tea, but she is sweet. some would find her charming or endearing. (everyone else readin this - go listen! you might love her!) my only question is what connection does she have to dizzy rascal (since you put him the blender creation)? i totally can't find it. her voice, lyrics and music all sound totally different than his (to my ears and brain). so i'm just curious what connection you found. great review, your enthusiasm is effective! (and probably infectious too!)
