so ive been reading all these lovely posts on mog lately, and after finding out so much about you all, i just dont know how i could possibly follow any of you up. so many interesting people with interesting backgrounds under one roof, and then little ol me. well i guess its more about getting to know each other better. which is awesome, because its like taking the next step in this digi relationship. so here goes.
my name is sam. leader of ji kun do: king of the iron fist. i fled here from hong kong after killing a man. ... that was a lie.
i was born in tacoma washington, but raised in the city just opposite the narrows bridge (you know, the one that fell down). i realized at an early age how blessed i was to be able to call gig harbor my stomping ground. its a small beautiful place, its home and i love it.

my mother is japanese, making me half. ive been to the land of the rising sun a few times. more so than any other of my siblings. im the youngest of four. my sisters are 6 and 5 years older than me, and my bro is 4 years older. so... 6,5,4, ...normally followed by a 3... ya i was a mistake. but the best damn mistake ever! i was lucky enough to have some of the best sibs a guy could ask for, and they all married people that make for some of the best bro and sis-in-laws! i truly love my family.
ive been going to the same church my entire life, and if it wasnt for their youth program i dont know where id be today. ive never touched a drug, and i was out of high school before i ever tasted booze. yes, im a devote christian, and i hope that doesnt scare anyone away. because just like in music, i feel it puts up red flags. don't be afraid to say things around me. I still bleed. I love all music. I voted for obama. we're not all televangelists on tbn.
I started listening to music at an early age. although ive gone through many phases, 90s alt rock is in my heart. I like to think I make music. i listen to a lot of instrumental stuff. I have an itch on my eyebrow that I will take care of as soon as im done typing this sentence. I am a gamer. a fast learner. people at work say I have OCD. i matured faster than my friends. ive had bosses call me the 'voice of reason.' i conserve. im always prepared. im careful. im realistic. never broken a bone... that i know of. i play a lot of frizbee in the summer. I have play lists for every situation. I can be shy. im very comfortable in front of large groups of people (I like the spotlight), but can suffer in one on one situations. I think I want to teach. but I also want to major in communications. which is funny because I work best when im not around people. just give me a job and leave me alone. I have dimples that ive dubbed 'the ladykillers.' I wrestled for seven years, and now I cant motivate myself to work out. i love to travel, but hate the process. i cant really think of anything else. so i guess im done.

I so miss The State...did they ever put out that DVD!?
And "Mistake" huh? I always just thought that mom and dad wanted me to have a sidekick...
and finally....GOBAMA!
it's wonderful to meet another 'best damn mistake ever!". you see, there's 6 years between my youngest bro and I ... and 17 years between my oldest bro and I.
It's so cool to be a mistake :)

Cool yo! My oldest brother wrestled in junior high and high school, and yes he can't find himself to exercise anymore either, so he hired a personal trainer to make him Haha. my brother is a dork but I am too, we get each other lol It's cool you shared all of this with us Sam, I guess it helps put a personality to a face better haha and YES you are so lucky! If where you live is like that picture above then yes. Where I live is pretty nice too, it's a cute little beach town. I like it. Cheers to ya! You are a wonderful friend here on Mog, your wit and humor cracks me up a lot of times. :D
the pleasure is all on this side of the monitor :)
well anna, ill answer you with a quick anecdote.
i was on break at work and a guy sitting at a table ahead of me says, "so i didnt know you were a christian." i was like, "oh ya, i guess i am." he responds, "like, really a christian. like really into it." apparently he'd been talking to a certain girl at work that hits on me talks to me a lot. she caught me reading a rob bell book once, which I told her I was reading for a book group that I was in with a bunch of my friends from church. but im thinking, thats got to be the dumbest thing ive ever heard. if i didnt really believe in something, why believe in it at all? why front and act like i cared in the first place? ill go back to the music example. i would play a song for a friend and they would like it, but once i told them it was from a christian band they would all of a sudden dislike it. i mean a lot of christian music does suck, but its a hellava lot better than what it used to be. but ive just seen this a thousands times, when the faith gets brought up people tend to think of the soap box standing, blow-horn tootin, pamphlet handing dbags. but its all good in the hood.
ya des that pic was taken this summer on a friends boat out in the sound. it was freezing too haha.
Being a Christian band hasn't hurt U2 very much. Probably because a lot of people don't realise it. People are so dumb most of the time.
or maybe u2 is just so epic that they have all made an exception HAHA. but ya see, u2 doesnt classify themselves as a christian band, the members just happen to be roman catholic. when i walk into borders bookstore, 'christian' has its own section far away from the other cds. nobody is looking for rap music over there. which is a shame, because believe it or not, there is some amazing stuff there that hip hop fans will never hear.
The 'christian' section is all by itself - that made me laugh. Treated just like 'jazz' or something. (I should probably declare that my dad was a minister and my mum was pretty full blown aiming to chat with the Lord by any means necessary.) I like what you said about U2....[thinks] yeah, I'll let them get away with all those lyrics on the second album pulled straight from the Bible, because "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is so epic." :-p
true true. u2 does do the best version of psalms 40 haha.
i still remember the first time i understood 'one man betrayed with a kiss' haha. OH!
And the best part is, they're ripping off a book that's out of copyright!
lolz
