WE ARE SEX BOB-OMB!

AND WE'RE HERE TO MAKE YOU THINK ABOUT DEATH AND GET SAD AND STUFF.

On Friday I went to the PAX convention in Seattle. Truly a heaven for the hardcore gamer. I got to play a bunch of unreleased games, received tons of free swag, won a pair of bulletproof Oakley sunglasses for being a BAMF, and saw a bunch of famous people that you've never heard of. A nerdy ol' time was had. There's nothing quite like it. Thousands of people, hundreds of screens in every direction, the smell of nerd sweat mixed with the perfumes of the beautiful booth babes that are being paid to be there. gah, I might have to buy a three day pass next year.

If you're a gamer, do yourself a favor and make the pilgrimage to Seattle one year, or Boston if you're on the East coast. Speaking of Pilgrims... Afterwards, my friends and I decided to go see the movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and what a fantastic way to end the day. Probably one of the best movies I've seen all year, and it's a shame it had such a terrible opening weekend despite awesome reviews. It stars Michael Cera (stay with me) as a bass player in a struggling unsigned band. The first thing people will notice about this movie is all the references to video games and the likeness of its culture.

Not to be outdone though, the music is what really hooked me. In fact as soon as I got home I picked up the soundtrack. Every song nails it, not a bad apple in the bunch. The movie showcases several "fake" bands, all of which were actually written and performed by names you are already familiar with. Beck as the chunky bass driven Sex Bob-omb, Broken Social Scene as the punky Crash and the Boys, and Metric as the poppy sell-outs, Clash at Demonhead. For the most part, the vocals were reworked to fit the actors, but the OST includes all of Beck's version's at the end. I can already tell, it's going to be a while before I listen to anything else.

Tron anyone? I'm more excited for the soundtrack (by Daft Punk) to come out.

Check out this guy's backpack! By far the coolest thing I saw all night.

Console Freeplay. Take a break from gaming... by playing games...

Definitely a gaming geeks dream. Looks cool & fun. I love the Tron sculpture. Btw, none of the songs are playing for me even after I refreshed the page.
