For $1 you get nothing.

Haven't you always wanted to hear three different versions of one album? I've never really thought about it, but now maybe... ya, I might.

Well that's what The Age of Rockets are planning on doing! Front man Andrew Futral describes it as a "choose your own adventure" album, where they will record 10 songs in three different styles, then you can put your own official version of the album together. Pretty neat idea, but as we all know, pretty neat ideas cost guac. So they're asking for any and all that can spare cash, monies, and coin to cover production fees. The target amount for this project is $8,000, and at the time of this post, they're less than $500 to goal. The deadline is 5pm on Dec. 15, so it seems that they may just pull this off.

The best part are the donation rewards. It's crazy to see how much money people are willing to part with, but after reading about some of the things you get for pledging, it didn't really surprise me. Andrew is a crafty son of a gun, and he sounds more determined than ever to get this concept on the road. Here are just a few of the creative gifts you will receive for donating:

$40 - Sold Out

  • Digital download of the album(s)
  • Your name and link on their website
  • A personalized mix CD from Andrew in which he will take your musical taste into consideration, "...with a nice cover and everything as if I were trying to hit on you via mix cd."

$75 - Sold Out

  • Digital download of the album(s)
  • Name printed in CD booklet
  • Polaroid photograph of Andrew Futral taken by Jenny Owen Youngs signed by Jenny Owen Youngs as "Bess Rogers-Kuffner."

$150 - Sold Out

  • Album download (as soon as it's released)
  • Handmade physical album (signed)
  • Name in booklet
  • Personal letter of thanks
  • Audio commentary of your favorite movie by Andrew as if he had something to do with the making of it.

$300 - Sold Out

  • A bunch of limited edition EP's
  • Picture of you in booklet
  • Song named after you
  • "I will also spend this 300 on recording specifically for that song so when people ask you why your name is on there you can say I paid for the orchestra on that song. Then people will say "REALLY?" and you will say really nonchalantly "yeah, it's no big deal, they are friends of mine so I hooked them up."

$700

  • "Everything from before but we will record a 4 song EP for you. Any 4 songs ever (1 of which can be the personal song about you or about whatever you want). If you wanted us to do a 4 song nickelback tribute this might be your only opportunity for that."

$10,000

  • "I will make, star and direct a shot for shot remake of your favorite movie as best as I can. I will spend money on costumes and lighting and try really hard to make it as good as i can."

I think there should be a $20,000 pledge where you only get a shirt that says: "I donated $20,000 to The Age of Rockets and all I got was this lousy t-shirt."

Check out the rest! and donate if you like!

I love these types of money-raising ideas!!   I can't afford the $700 or $10,000 ... so I guess I'll just have to give them a few bucks!! :)

Recently David Bazan's van died, so he did this type of thing ... for $40 I got a cd, dvd, tshirt (which says "I helped buy Bazan a van" ... well, I think that's what it says ... my son now owns the shirt!  LOL!!) and a gift cert for $5 off anything at his show.  I thought it was fabulous!  Especially when he notified us that he'd bought his new van and added a picture of it and one of the old one being towed away.

    Good stuff!!!!

it is SO weird that you posted this today. I've known about this for awhile but just today I  decided to donate. Haven't decided how much though...I'm trying to talk myself into the $100 one where you get your own personal remix.  If I do, got any ideas of what song I should choose?

PS Great song choice for the post, I love this one!

ha! that is weird. great minds right?

i looked at the hundy one, and slowly backed out...

not sure what song id choose, just know it would be AMAZING. futral is a remix master. OOoo OOoo 'closing time' by semisonic. no noo, 'take a picture' by filter. oh wait, 'daylight' by matt and kim. dang, now that i think of it, there are a lot...... but dont let me sway your decision. ;)

haha, I'll probably come to my senses eventually and realize I can't spend that much on this, but if I do, I'll let you know what I choose. I like the 'closing time' suggestion! :)

Patrick Wolf did this very thing to raise money for his latest cd 'The Bachelor'. I think he even gave people stock options in his record company too or at least the album. Ask Anna. She donated & joined so she'd be the expert on mog. It's a great idea although it's been done before Patrick did it I'm sure.

Um, I highly doubt it but then I don't recall all that was offered. Ask Anna, she'll tell ya.
