when i touched down in phoenix last week, i had about an hour to kill before my next flight to austin. i plugged in my buds and flipped the switch to my player, knowing that the playlist i was on would grace my ears with something easy and comforting. funny enough, it was brian eno's 'music for airports.' all four tracks, in order, 48 minutes of ambient. i listened as i walked on the conveying thinger, as i changed into my flip flops, as i bought some gum, as i found my next gate. when you are alone, in an unfamiliar place, peacefully passing others and listening to this music, things tend to slow down. a bluish metallic tint sets in, yet everything feels warm. there is no sound, the world is a mute. a soundtrack is playing just for you. i started taking everything in, as a smirk formed on my face. eno is the man.
the so called father of ambient really nailed it with this one. which leads me to the title. i dont know if people knew this about me, but i dont really like apple. the company, not the fruit. i live in washington, i love the red delish. but as for the computer company, cant say i enjoy their product(s). and i understand saying that on the internet is like asking for a flame war. im not trying to fan it. if you like macs go ahead and use them, ill stick with my pc. we will all be happy. i dont want to argue about OSs or looks or the amount of buttons a mouse has. i just want to say the main reason why im a pc fanboy, is because of eno. him and his six second masterpiece that started up every copy of windows 95. :Pthat and he produced a lot of u2s work. ill forgive him for originally trying to scrap the master tape for 'where the streets have no name.' he and u2 also formed the group “passengers”??Your Blue Room??
