ive watched the talking heads dvd 'stop making sense' probablalbalably 5 times in the past week. its just that good. with an ever-growing stage and energetic david byrne, the concert delivers hit after hit like some lunatic tai boxer. however, since it was filmed in 1984, no 'road to nowhere'... insert sad face here. but i cant complain. as by watching this, i realized that live versions of songs can in fact sound better than studio recorded. the show starts with a solo byrne, his acoustic guit guit guit and a simple 808 beat. the stage is stripped, and after each song, something else is added, weather that be a backdrop, percussion station, musician, etc.??byrne is... wiry??one of my favorite tracks is when he starts serenading a lamp in 'naive melody (this must be the place).' i think its this song where you really hear byrnes vocals shine.also a special appearance by the tom tom club (giving david a chance to catch his breath), performing 'genius of love' sung by bassist tina weymouth. and the back-up singers, edna holt and lynn mabry have more personality than flava flave, carrot top and the entire first season of the mighty boosh combined. byrne also dawns a big suit. said in the special features to make his head look small... because he likes geometric shapes. whatever.
