  1. Lizziegreeneyes says I can count on one hand the albums I haven't purchased _whole_... must be my generation... I like a full album - even if I have songs I am not thrilled with, I want it in its entirety... that's how they made it & I should respect that... may not listen to the ones I don't like - but I _have_ them....

  2. Sam The Artist says ditto. besides i hate itunes. i feel so much more complete with an entire album. you get to touch it, experience it.

  3. Lizziegreeneyes says I never thought I'd like it at all really (iTunes), but I have gotten slightly addicted to the convenience. Still, it's all about the album - as a whole, liner notes etc. That's a big part of my musical experience & even with a "digital" booklet, NOT THE SAME THING !!!

  4. annieander says I am with you Lizzie...hate to love it. It is easy to download, especially imports that would normally cost a bundle. But I RARELY buy just one song at a time. My Postal Service fixation is the only example where I only buy a song here or there, otherwise, it is the whole shebang. Good for Jay-Z for not breaking up the album...

  5. milkshake says I only buy albums anyway and I rarely hear album tracks that I'd have to buy of itunes (well I don't have itunes but you get what I mean). Agree with what he's doing - getting his album heard as it was intended!

  6. Cody B says What about the young kid who doesn't want to pay $17 bucks...I'm no itunes lover, but Mr.Z is just spinning it artistic..he is after all a record company executive...Remember how the single was phased out in order that folks buy the whole CD back in the early 90's..This is that kinda play, plus Universal is fighting itunes so Jay-Z is also doing Universals bidding here. To my mind it is strictly business..Not that there is anything wrong with that..He is taking advantage of his fans, though! Especially the children. I don't know this for a fact, but I'm pretty sure the album is being promoted by a single..a single you can't buy! It's like déja vu all over again.

  7. annieander says Interesting angle Cody...hadn't really thought of it that way. I will think on that.

  8. Sam The Artist says annie: yasee, i usually dont get that problem. i kinda self proclaimed myself "the friendly neighborhood music hustler" because i can normally get _that song_ somehow. and something is telling me not to do it through itunes. milk: i agree, i respect an artist for wanting people to hear the song in its surrounding environment... well, tracks. codester: for real, interesting take. but like jiggaman said in kanye's remix for _diamonds from sierra leone_, I sold kilo's of coke I'm guessing I can sale CD's I'm not a businessman, I'm a BUSINESS, Man Let me handle my business, damn

  9. annieander says I would like to think that there is more to it then hustling a song...I would feel like an idiot, posting suggestions a mix, being hustled, all in the spirt of good will. Do I occasionally pass on music to those that I have purchased? Yes, and I accept music to those that I have helped, but it has to go around, kharma wise. One just can't take without giving back to the atmosphere.

  10. Sam The Artist says well, i do give it back. im just saying itunes isnt the only place people have to download from. and "hustler" is more for flavor ;)

  11. Cody B says I agree about albums..But it seems like that is on the way out too..I seriously lament that.

  12. Wanbli says Sorry, but after Jay-Z "retired" and then sold his soul to Budweiser for his "return" - he has little to no credibility here.

  13. Lizziegreeneyes says Here's the thing... I could feed several third world countries, put a downpayment on a home & travel the globe for a year on the money I've spend on CDs, cassettes, concert tickets, tshirts... on ANYTHING musically-related. So if I share some of the wealth & others are kind enough to do the same... I don't see that as a problem, I think I've more than laced their palms with silver, it's time for a little _let's focus on lge !!!_ I am willing to bet quite a lot of us are in/were in the same boat. Being single & without children, I can still get away with some of that abandon, but I really would like to save up enough for a downpayment on a home... I really do enjoy travelling to other countries. Please Hammer, don't hurt me ;)

  14. Sam The Artist says cody: its scary to think about isnt it? times are a'changin wanbli: i love how he "retired" after the black album, then helped linkin park with the mash up cd, then dropped kingdom come a year later. i mean, i know he could probably bang out an album faster than the regular rap joe, but come on. ive lost a little respect for him this past year. liz: lawdy lawdy! preach it sista! im currently unemployed cuz my school schedule is just too crazy. and im forced to watch the money in my bank accounts slowly dwindle...

  15. Lizziegreeneyes says hard times... but we got tunes & we got the internet & MOG (when functioning properly) & multiply... all is not lost !!! :)
    Permalink posted 11/07/2007
  16. Sam The Artist says that reminds me, i have to set up a multiply some time soon...
    Permalink posted 11/07/2007
  17. Lizziegreeneyes says YES YOU MUST !!! Seems to be getting more traffic than MOG these days... We need you there Sam !!!
