Rogue Wave Live / MOG VLOG?

Posted over 4 years ago
last night i had the pleasure of seeing one of my favorite bands play. the day started at school, with the concert being the only thing on my mind. after just getting by a test on musical measures and bars, and completely bombing a bio quiz; i headed home to get ready (skipping a math exam). i picked up my friend camilla, and we arrived at the venue at doors open... or so they said. there was nobody in line except a nice little couple about my age. they had been waiting for an hour already and like myself, were expecting a much longer line. as we talked and shivered, people started to accumulate. after a couple of delays, we were finally let in. as one of the first people in the venue, we got the frontiest front spots in the house. camilla even reached out and touched zachs guitar. _Shes such a badass_. the show started about a half hour late, but it started none the less. the opening band was one i had never heard of before. Port O'Brien took the stage with an awkward lead singer and petite gal that liked to shake her money maker and sing in other peoples mics. they werent terrible, but the first few songs either had some monitor problems or he just struggled with pickin his guit guit guit. he was also really into crowd participation... but 95% of the people there didnt know any of their songs so it was a little weird. however they did rock the house on their last song, inviting all their overzealous fans on stage. Finally rogue wave came about, and started with the first song off of their new album “harmonium,” which acted as a great introduction to their set. They played a few songs off of their first album _Out of the shadows_, songs like “kicking the heart out” and “sewn up,” and two off of their sophomore _descended like vultures_, predictably “publish my love” and “bird on a wire.” I had hoped they would play one or two more from _descended_, but you win some you lose some. They also played a few songs off of their newest album that I had not expected them to play; “ghost” “missed” “lullaby” but no “fantasies” WTFudge pudding?! However every song sounded killer live. they performed “eyes” during the encore and I was officially satisfied. drummer Pat Spurgeon was so much fun to watch. I often found myself just staring at him play. Him and his new kidney are so talented. For those of you who didn’t know, pat was born with one kidney that failed. His last transplant started to deteriorate in 2006, so rogue wave put on a benefit concert to raise money for a new transplant. A lot of great artist played, including our very own Ben Gibbard! clap clap clap._i was so close i could smell what he had for lunch… mmmmm tuna fish_Anyways I took a bunch of video of the concert, and youll even see me in there for a sec! what more could you ask for but a quick glimpse of the sam in complete motion on the silver screen? The answer is nothing. I like the whole video thing, I think it makes mog a little less two dimensional. However the process was a little annoying, something like:Dear Microsoft movie maker,You suck. You are a big pile of freezy doo doo butter. And I hate you.Ps. I meant it every time I sent in the error report.xxooSam

  1. stchew says Not many men would feel completely comfortable using "doo doo" in a complaint letter. Good on you! It is always awesome to see a loved band. By the way, the next electronic mix is up...hope you like that one too (a few more vocals then on the 1st one). Have a good trip in Maui. but don't drive the road to Hana...not recommended for the faint of heart.

  3. annieander says I was accidently logged in under my husbands account...I am setting him up as a new mogger. Who knew that mog would suddenly remember his login and not me. It never remembers me..and on my own computer. Anyway. It looks like you figured it out, especially if you are checking out the mix. Let me know what you think about Hanne. She is a favorite of mine. I lile the view from your window. It almost makes me miss Hawaii. Have a great trip. Enjoy.
