Bands I Have Seen Live

Posted over 2 years ago
I was talking with Rawkkiddo about this and felt like posting them all here. Why not?I'll post the full list in the comments. I'd post a short list, but it's better taken all at once. I'd post a link to the page at last.fm, but where's the fun in that? :)

  2. amber says Great list...I strive to achieve such greatness of groupie-dom. I think I have a pretty good start but my concert going clock is ticking, ticking, ticking......

  3. Viva La Britt says Yeah, I think Sam posted this list just to make us all envious...if this is the case, mission accomplished, sir ;) I swear, if I don't see Huey Lewis and the News live in the next year, I won't be a happy girl. Oh, and congratulations on the great interview you mentioned in Rawkiddo's post! From the sounds of it, you'll be hearing good news from the company in no time, yes?

  4. lemontwist says I can't even remember all the shows I've been to, not that it's been a lot. I love how last.fm lets you keep track of them all, though. There are only a few I couldn't put up because I can't remember when I went. :)

  5. SamTheButcher says Amber: I feel like in a lot of ways, my concert-going clock has expired. But I'll drag my old, tired ass out for certain shows, like Prince. :) Hopefully the Police this summer. Paul Westerberg, should he grace Denver again. That sort of stuff. Britt: I saw Huey Lewis at Red Rocks a loooooong time ago. A friend of my dad's knew Huey so we got free tix. Fun show! And re: the job - yeah, they seemed to like me pretty well yesterday. We'll see now it goes - if they do offer me the job, it'll come down to salary. I'm happy where I currently am, just looking for something that'll put me on the track to what I really want to do - programming, preferrably web stuff. AJ - there are a few on this list that I, uh, sorta remembered. :) That's why I went to see the Pixies a few years ago. I have vague, hazy memories of seeing them about 10 years earlier, but I can't be sure.....

  8. SamTheButcher says Rk- They're not in order, I should've mentioned that. And it looks like I forgot Cracker! I saw them one of the times I saw Jellyfish. At the Hard Rock in San Diego, actually. Air Supply was another old Red Rocks show. Did I say old? I meant OLD. Like, when Air Supply was big. Yeah. Then. Anna - Any shows in particular you like? :) Oh, and I like the "old school" pic you're rockin' again. :D

  9. Anna says Green Day, Smiths, Smashing Pumpkins, Afghan Whigs, Oasis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Depeche Mode, Beastie Boys, Blur, Pulp, New Order. I haven't seen any of these and I'd love to *sigh* Oh yeah, the skull is back! :)

  10. SamTheButcher says Oh, yeah. The Whigs. Forgot about you and them. :) Great, GREAT show. The sound they got out of their guitars was awesome. Beasties I saw before Paul's Boutique came out, so they were still in their "jump around and throw beers into the audience" phase. The Blur, Pulp and Oasis shows...now there's a story. :) See, Pulp was opening for Blur. It was the Parklife tour back in, what, 94? Pulp was awesome, I really liked "Do You Remember The First Time?" and "Pink Glove", and liked a fair amount of Blur songs, too, but they *really* surprised me in concert. A solid one-two punch I wasn't expecting at all. Lifeong fans of both bands after that show. Bought me a Pulp shirt. Still wear it now and again. :) Oasis was either the next night, or two nights later. Again, this was '94, Oasis wasn't much in the states. I read my Q and Select like a good Anglophile should, and had Definitely Maybe, loved the record. So, we went to see them at the Bottom Of The Hill in San Francisco. Very tiny club. So, as we're milling about, waiting for the show to begin (PACKED, by the way...lots of Anglophiles in the Bay Area), who do we see milling about but members of Blur and Pulp! I don't recall seeing Damon, but I think Jarvis was there, and the bass player for Blur, and Graham. Oh, and Robyn Hitchcock was walking around, too. The show starts, and Oasis could NOT have seemed less interested. But they played good. It was so packed, that my friend and I were standing on instrument cabinets up against the wall. We were just to the left of the bar, I think I remember buying a beer from up there. Just a really cool memory of a couple of great shows. The Pumpkins were a similar story, the Gish tour in probably, oh, 91? 92? at the old Casbah in San Diego. We stood right in front of them and just rocked out. No stage at that place, bands just played at the front of the room. I drunkenly asked Billy afterward if the band I was in at the time could open for them on their next tour. He said to send him a tape. I didn't, but it was just as well. I got kicked out of that band. They went on to be on the John Peel show, but that's another story for another time. :) I've rambled on long enough.

  12. SamTheButcher says Dude, it was 1981 or 82 and my sister went with her friends and my parents took her. It's not like they could leave me home or anything.... Besides, I made out with one of my sister's friends on the ride back home. :D

  13. Anna says ^ haha naughty Sam :) The “jump around and throw beers into the audience” is my favourite BB's phase! "Oasis could NOT have seemed less interested" I totally believe that. I can't believe you asked Corgan that; it doesn't matter that you were drunk, you, my friend, have serious balls. Are GD a riot live? :) Thank you for sharing your concert memories, they certainly made my Sunday morning. Since I can no longer see some of them live, this qualifies as the next best thing.

  15. SamTheButcher says Anna: Green Day? Well, it was a short set from the Dookie days at a festival in '94. (Live 105's BFD) Lists I've seen say it included Beck, The Pretenders, I seem to remember Oingo Boingo and...more that I can't remember. :)
