...but does a purportedly "respectable" news outlet like CNN need to resort to using a slang word like "ginormous" in a headline? "Ginormous sinkhole gobbles up yards"What's wrong with "enormous" or "gigantic"?In fact, I prefer "gigantic," because then I start singing the Pixies song."A big, big love...."Which reminds me, the new Foals song "Big, Big Love" is pretty good. Both versions. It's the song I listened to before my interview the other day to psych me up. Must've worked, I got the job.Damn...I went all over the place on this one, didn't I?

    John Madden says Rambling posts. You have to love them. Completely agree with the CNN thing. I've worked as a sub-editor, so I can get a bit hung up on good grammar, punctuation and spelling but I *really* hated when a news outlet devolved into using slang terms. I heartily endorse any use of the Pixies' 'Gigantic'. I once wrote a short story about a singer in a Pixies cover band called The Gigantics. And believe it or not, I haven't heard Foals yet. I've heard good things, though, so I must check them out.

    SamTheButcher says If I want to read about "Ginormous" anything, I'll look to the Onion. Hell, they've probably got too much integrity to use "ginormous". I'd like to read that story! I'm hopefully going to start on my book this summer. I have a vague idea what it's going to be about, but I know it won't be about a cover band singer. Great band name, though. :) If you like the more angular Bloc Party stuff, stuff that's a little challenging in meter, you'll like Foals. I'm surprised at how much I do like, it actually. I usually eschew the use of labels like "math-rock", but they do have a song called "Mathletics". :)
