"All Summer Long"?
While the two licks are similar, it reminds me more of "Werewolves of London" more than "Sweet Home Alabama".
Just sayin'.
Best Buy & Circuit City, as usual. I'll point out the cheaps I think are worth it, but there's usually more.
Circuit City: CDs - $6.99 - O'Jays Backstabbers; Billy Paul 360 Degrees of Billy Paul; Solange Sol Angel & the Hadley Street Dreams $7.99 - The Verve Forth (I personally can't stand the Verve, but I know that a lot of people do like 'em, so....)
DVDs - $4.99 - Natural Born Killers; Italian Job (new); Lean On Me; Ace Ventura, Pet Detective; The Warriors; I Am Sam; Pleasantville; Never Ending Story; and the reason I'm posting this: The Incredible Mr. Limpet. :)
Best Buy: CDs - $7.99 - Ying Yang Twins The Official Work; Solange again, Three 6 Mafia Last 2 Walk; Theory of a Deadman Scars & Souvenirs; Scars on Broadway.
DVDs - $3.99 - Botle Rocket; Charlie's Angels - Full Throttle; Saving Silverman; Crank; Crash; Resevoir Dogs
There you go. And a propos of nothing: I really like the new Coldplay album. :)
Comments
3.99 for Bottle Rocket? How can you pass that up?
They'd have to pay me the $3.99 to take "Charlie's Angels - Full Throttle" and "Saving Silverman" off their hands. And even then, I'd be reluctant.
1. What's your favorite band?
Replacements
2. Do you play an instrument?
Yes - Guitar and keyboards
3. Sing?
Yep, I've done some singing. Listen for yourself: http://www.samthebutcher.com/music/music.html
4. Write lyrics?
Yeah...it's the hardest part of writing a song for me.
5. Have you ever slept with a drummer?
You mean like "slept" or slept? No...I don't think so.
6. What's the coolest concert you've ever attended?
Coolest? Um...when I'm in the mood to namedrop, I talk about seeing Oasis at the Bottom of the Hill in SF a day or two after seeing Blur and Pulp at the Fillmore or somewhere. Not only is the club tiny, but there were members of the other two bands milling about, as well as Robyn Hitchcock.
7. Who's the most skilled guitarist of all time?
Most skilled or best player? Like Rawkkiddoh, I'd have to tip my hat to Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi for most soul, for being possessed by the music. Most skilled would have to be fought out by the likes of Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Satriani, etc.
8. Name a song that just makes you want to break stuff.
Like, good break stuff? "God Damn Job" by the Replacements, or maybe "Fuck School." Bad break stuff, like destroying the hi-fi that's playing the song? "Walking in Memphis". I fucking cannot stand that song.
9. Name three musicians who died of drug overdoses.
The singer dude from Alice in Chains, Darby Crash, Keith Moon.
10. What's the best lyric ever written?
You gotta be fucking kidding me, right? This would take me way too long to figure out. "De do do do, De da da da". "Ballyhoo and bedbugs/bedbugs and ballyhoo" "Papa oo mao mao" "Whaddya want for nuthin? A rrrrrrrrrrrrubber biscuit?" For starters. :) Seriously...I couldn't even...I'd have to start with Westerberg, something like "You're like a picture on the fridge that's never stocked with food/I used to live at home, now I stay at the house" I mentioned a couplet from Promise Ring's "Forget Me" the other day: "Between one June and September/You're all I remember" I mean...you hear that, and you know what he's talking about. Lots of Billy Bragg....I just can't, man. Can't pick out one. I don't think. If I hear it, I'll come back and write about it. :)
11. If you could experience one band/artist perform live at any point in history, who?
Gosh, I've seen so many heros of mine lately, I'm not sure. Maybe Elvis Presley right at the start, in Memphis. Or...Something like Louis Armstrong...or Bing Crosby, back in the day. Something like that would be awesome, some dinner club, Bing up there singin'....
12. If you could master any instrument, which would it be?
Banjo. That shit looks hard.
13. If you had the power to rid the world of one genre of music, what would be gone?
None. They've all got merits. Seriously.
14. What song do you have playing right now?
Nothing, amusingly enough. Although, I did just add the song "Murder in the City" by the Avett Brothers to the alt.country station on slacker.com
15. Greatest album in the history of time?
I want to say White Album. That thing just freaks me out, it's all over the place, but still all so well done.
16. Is Elvis still The King?
I can't figure out how to type out a sneer and "aawwww-huhhhhh"
17. What's your favourite musical?
The Music Man. (I'm actually a fan of musicals.)
18. When you hear the phrase "Rock 'N' Roll" what comes to mind?
50's...cars, jeans, t-shirt with cigarettes rolled up in the sleeves...saddle shoes & bobby sox...milkshakes...hot rods.... Probably a fixture from my parents, they grew up in Memphis in the 50's and had a front row seat.
19. Ever wanted to be a D.J.?
Where do you think I got my "handle"? :) Sam the Butcher on KCR, College Radio in San Diego. :) I could never hack it on commercial radio. I was spoiled by free-form radio. I did have some good friends who went on to do the commercial thing. I guess I could've done it as like a morning show or something but....not playing the music that someone else tells you to play. But yeah, I wanted to be that guy who played your favorite song, the one that made you roll the windows down and turn it up and step on the gas. The one that made you dance around the living room, professing your love for the DJ. Yeah, I did want to be that guy. I hope I was, once or twice. :)
20. If you could sleep with any famous musician, who would it be?
Hm.....I used to say if I were going to be gay, I'd want to sleep with Paul Humphreys from OMD because he wrote some of my favorite songs. :) But straight-like? Um...uh....Karen from Yeah Yeah Yeahs? The Wilson sisters from Heart back in the 70's? Liz Phair?...that's all I can think of right now....

A few things here...........
1. Did not know you were such a Replacements fan, I am in the same boat as you. Got to see Paul do an acoustic set at the Walker a few years back, I am sure you would have loved it.
2. Your break stuff song rules
3. Loved the answer to best lyric, especially the rubber biscut part. As for Billy Bragg, I can not get enough of that man. (did that sound gay?)
4. Please get on board to rid the world of Modern Country, I can not see any good in that music@!
5. Didnt know you liked musicals
6. OMD!? Love em, but since you put that on paper you might want to get out of the closet Mr. Butcher
i was expecting to hear your chops on GENIUS, started listening in anticipation, but coudn't stop cuz it was a killer track. nice work.
@Charley - Hey, thanks. :) And I wouldn't say I've got singing "chops". I used to have something resembling that on guitar, but definitely not singing. :)
