Track:When I Close My Eyes
I posted a song by Ozomatli a little while ago, from their album Don't Mess with the Dragon. Now I'm going to be reviewing the whole album. And oh, it is good. The album starts off with the track I posted earlier, Can't Stop. It's a very fun, upbeat song with a nice rock edge. It's very catchy and cheerful, and a good opener to the album, giving a good impression of what to expect. However, Latin/Pop/Rock songs is not all they have up their sleeve. The next song, City Of Angels, seems to mix funk, hip-hop and rap quite nicely, it's very funky and I can't help but move to it.
The third track is in my opinion the weakest on the album, After Party, it's a lil' cheesy. It's still very catchy and fun, but it just sounds a little childish to me. But it's ok, really. All the other tracks on the album are very good, mixing a lot of different styles while still feeling like one big whole. Interestingly every song is strong individually but also works very nicely when listening to the entire album. Even with every song being so good, real standouts not counting the tracks I mentioned before are Don't mess with The Dragon (cheesy as well, but so, so, so very catchy and fun), Violeta (a beautiful soulful latin ballad) and When I Close My Eyes, a song with a real rock edge that is just... very funky, and awesome, and unique. (Yes, that is, in fact, the best way to describe the song). It might be worth it to note that if you purchase the song online on eMusic (DRM free, high quality mp3), you get 2 exclusive live bonus tracks, which are both also very very good. (One of which is 16 minutes long)To sum things up, the album is called "Don't Mess with the Dragon", and I wouldn't dream of it. Worship it, maybe. Ok, definitely.
