WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Psst, don't tell anyone, but...

Sometimes even the best of albums, despite the best of efforts, by the best of bands, just happens to be played prior to its release. And I happen to have heard it.And it happens to be bloody brilliant.Okay, quick rundown of the songs that I just happen to have heard.1. Pioneer to the Falls - The opening song of their recent tour. Quiet intro, slowly filling up with instruments. With in the midst of the song the lyrics: Oh no, you tryYou fly straight into my heartYou fly straight into my heartGirl, I know you tryYou fly straight into my heartYou fly straight into my heartBut here comes the fall...At the end, the instruments have become more intense, as throughout the song, you feel the suffering has as well.2. No I in Threesome - A heavy bassline opens, with some weird noises in between. Keyboard and bass play a big role in this song. In the mean time, Paul croons "Maybe it's time we gave something new a try".3. The Scale- Opens with a guitar and then the drums kick in. The sinister lyrics "I made you and now I take you back" add to the suspense.4. Heinrich Manouver- They played this one during their tour, and it has been circulating around for quite some time. It opens immediately with the confronting "How are things on the West Coast?". One of the more up-tempo songs of the album.5. Mammoth- They also played this one during the tour, and for me it is THE highlight of the album. Paul begs "spare me the suspense". In my uneducated opinion, it's about a woman he knows is going to leave him, and he's just counting the days for her to do it, so he asks "spare me the suspense" and give me clarity. I think this also because of the last lines: "And you wait 'til you know that it’s time/You wait ‘til you know that it’s time"6. Pace is the Trick- Slower and quieter than it's two predecessors. First its just a guitar and Paul's voice, then slowly the rest silently come in. The volume slowly increases, as does the intensity of Paul's voice.7. All Fired Up- Dark guitars open this song. Darker it gets by the repeated lines "I'll take you on". Another repeated line is "I've got this soul, it's all fired up."8. Rest My Chemistry- Increasing keyboardists are the opener, before the rest kicks in. During the two bits that start with "you're so young" the instruments calm down, to flare up again after those words.9. Who Do You Think?- A more up-tempo song this one, thanks to the drum line I think. Also one of the shorter numbers.10. Wrecking Ball- They slow it down again with "Wrecking Ball". "Nobody told you, that I could just waltz through, and shake up your sky". Sounds like back-up singers on here.11. The Lighthouse- Closing tracks. Starts off a bit experimental with the instruments. Slow and melancholic, fits the closing track persona very well. Especially Paul's voice sounds more melancholic than ever. Not my favorite though, with those strange instrumentals.Well, just a few tidbits that I happen to have heard when it happened to be playing. Hope you guys are now even more looking forward to July, I know I am. :) Can't wait for the album to come out!

  1. Anna says Thank you for the preview. I have the album, too (whistling innocently), but I've only given it a quick spin; will have to dive in :)

  2. 1234chainsaw says I came back from a week away from Internet access to a leaked copy of this record too. Tomorrow will be a "walk around in Helsinki by the sea side and listen to Interpol" day. Hopefully the sunny weather won't clash too badly with the music...
