Simplicity Gone Wild

These days I spend my time searching online for the next artist to overheat my ipod. I look for the kind of music that acts as a jolt of electricity to my own creative process. Something to force my brain into a lyric/riff writing mode. I consistantly find myself running out of the so-called "creative juice" within about 20 minutes and continue to be forever cursed with writters block (a curse not so easily broken). But there is one band that is generally overwhelming to me. A band that generates so much electricity to my right hemisphere (yes, creativity comes from the right side of your brain). Vampire Weekend is simple indie music at its best. VW is able to create the indie new wave pop, yet old school genre that hasn't caught my eye from any recent bands. Songs like "Oxford Comma" include fun guitar riffs, simple yet crazy, ambiente keyboard, and drums that make you want to tap your fingers endlessly and jam along. The lyrics are the smart and witty combination that you'd expect from 4 ex-Columbia University students. Either way, if you havent seemed to hop on the Vampire Weekend train, give it a try. You might just make your right hemisphere happy.

i must've experienced a similar effect. today i was coming back from work listening to their album and suddenly felt the urge to write a bunch of stuff down. and the laziness didn't even kick in once i got home, i actually did sit and write..for once!
