MMJ & One Very Polite Boy with Dope

Posted over 3 years ago
We attended the annual Thanksgiving Homecoming of Louisville's own My Morning Jacket at the Louisville Gardens. They blew the doors off that historic venue and gave everyone something for which to be thankful. From the start of One Big Holiday to the final note 2 hours later, MMJ showed they are truly one of the best live bands in music today. Although, I must say that when Jim James hits that falsetto of his I get a little frightened. If you are not familiar with MMJ I would highly encourage purchasing their recent LIVE 2 CD set.

At the beginning of the concert, Marcia and I and some friends headed to the front. There we sang, danced and had a good time with a bunch of 'kids' at least 15 years younger. It wasn't long before I smelled that sweet, pungent smell that accompanies concerts like this (For the record, we even smelled it when we went to Cirque de Soleil with my parents.). These boys were very well mannered and obviously had been taught to share. He first asked Marcia if she wanted a hit. She said no thank you and pointed back towards me.

WTF? Was this a green light or an elaborate test? Deciding it was a test and the fact that I'm beyond those days (not in a "I'm too cool" way but more a "that window has closed"), I, too, course passed on it but thanked them for their generosity.

More dancing and singing ensued and the boys sparked up again. The guy next to me turns after a few minutes and says while extending his hand, "I can't remember. Did I offer you some?"

I replied, "You did and I'm fine. Thanks."

"No worries! MMJ ROCKS!!!!

Yes, they did.

  1. Chisti says i have heard that MMJ is the best live show that many people have seen. my question for you is, if you had been at the show by yourself, would you have taken a toke? just a ponder.

  2. RunZen says Hmmmm... interesting question. There are things to factor into the answer to that question.... A father in law who is a retired FBI agent and headed up the drug enforcement division (think Meet the Parents)... My normal paranoia that someone would see me... Additional paranoia that I would freak out because it's been awhile...
