Sonic Youth Deconstructs Robert Palmer

Posted about 1 year ago
On the heels of their masterpiece Daydream Nation, the noisemakers of Sonic Youth added post-Minutemen Mike Watt, briefly refashioned themselves as Ciccone Youth, and knocked out an album of half-baked ideas, monologues, songs too weird even for them, and a couple of bizarre covers. This version of Robert Palmer's Top 40 hit "Addicted to Love" sounds as if it were sung by one of those zombie chicks in the Palmer video, as Kim Gordon's flat, monotone voice happily buzzsaws through all the slick, bullshit production values of the original.
