Track:Roadhouse Blues (Take 6)
Jim Morrison may have been the Number One Douchebag in Rock and Roll History, but he was a great vocalist, The Doors made some undoubtedly great songs, and at least a couple of consistently good-to-great albums. One was Morrison Hotel, where the soon-to-be-dead lead singer gets higher on the blues than he does his own dangerously pretentious self. The latest reissue is a bit of an exercise in overkill, as it seems to have been made with the belief that one can never have too many versions of "Roadhouse Blues," even if most of them are half-assed takes and false starts. Listened to sequentially, however, you do hear the song gradually gaining form, with Morrison trying to whip the band into shape: "We're going to the roadhouse, not the bathroom!"
