shows i've seen resently

Wilco was amazing and seeing them play at stubbs made my summer, the set was great!!! Sry for the horrible pics, but trust me a great show!

Helio sequence one of my favorite bands right now, had the crowed really into them. I heard many people comment on the fact that two people could sound so powerful.

Lastly i saw mates of state last night didn't really take pics but the couple is always really fun and cute!

I saw the flming lips on monday

Probably one of the best monday nights i have ever had! I saw them from far back at last years ACL and i am so glad they came back to texas. Im short on time but here are some of the pictures i took.

Sadly ACL is now over

Day three was amassing! Ben Kweller finally got to play a full set, and i loved it!, I've been a fan of his since middle school so this was awesome for me.

I missed Bloc Party's set the last time they played at ACL, i believe i was waiting for Wilco, so this year i missed Wilco and saw them. Even if the new album wasn't as good as the first, i still had a good time.

My Morning Jacket played right after, the crowed wasn't in to them, probably because they where all waiting for Bob Dylan but i still had a good time.

I left right after, NO I DIDN'T STAY FOR BOB DYLAN, i have class at 9:30 tmr so i instead went to see Ghostland Observatory. I knew that a large crowed was likely, but they have way more drawing power then i expected. They had more people at there show then those waiting for Dylan and the people at the Decemberist.(sry no pics of this)

O and I'm on the first page of the Sunday edition of the Austin American Statesmen! How cool!

DAY 2

for my second day i saw some good shows, mediocre ones and really bad ones i bring you pictures of all.

Arcade Fire had a great set! my absolute favorite for Saturday. arctic monkeys had a good show to. Sound team wasn't as great as Arctic and Arcade but still fun. Paolo Nutini is not what i usually listen to but he had the girls in the crowed excited. And blue october was just not my style at all!

ACL DAY ONE

Really HOT!!! but soooo worth it!!! i sadly lost some pictures, the Blond Redheads and the ACL fire pics got deleted somehow. But i do have alot of LCD soundsystem pictures and then a few of Kaiser Chiefs. The lead singer decided it would be smart to clime up the side of the stage, really cool, but on his way down he hurt his foot. ANd had to sit for a while, they still pumped the crowed up,

link to ACL Day one folder:

After hours of studying and two test this later half of the week i am ready for ACL! not so much for the dehydration and the ievitable sun tan i'll get but for the bands that i havent seen and the ones i'm going to see again!

Friday i only plan on seeing the blond redheads, LCD soundsystem and mostlikely Kaiser Chiefs. My best friend will probably end up draging me to the killers but dont expect any pics from them

Saturday starts with Sound Team and then Ben Kweller is playing a 15 min set that i'll check out from then on i'll just chill till arctic monkeys and arcade fire play. sadly the white stripes among others droped and the schedual for saturday is kinda sad

sunday i'll end it with more ben kweler bloc party My morning Jacket (yes i'm seeing them instead of wilco, even though i wish i could see both) the decemberists and Bob Dylan

I'm ready to let lose i cant wait, i'll post slide shows but i prob wont write to much, i'll be tiered!

Having fun is the only way i cn get through this school year

My first week at UTSA was severely lacking music, but this weekend i made a trip to my home town, and one of the best places on earth AUSTIN TX!!! As soon as i arrived, i made my way to waterloo records, where i saw Okkervil River play. This show was the last one till they come back to play Fun Fun Fun Fest in November.

The band was really animated and enthusiastic, the lead singer was in aww of playing at the same places where they once dropped of five copies of there first CD.

Saturday night was another music filled night, i dragged one of my buddies out of his dorm, and headed down to see Perry Farrell's Satellite Party. The opening band Mink was funny in a rocking way. They put on a crazy shows, with antics that i had not been expecting. They set the stage perfectly for Perry. The show was big, but Perry played more Jane's Addiction songs than Satellite Party.

i leave you with one of my favorite Okkervil River songs

More reasons for my silence

With the chaos of shopping, packing, and moving to San Antonio, i have not been able to make any post recently. This is my music updates for the last couple of weeks:

After the failed attempt to see Spoon at Waterloo Records Store, i was eager to find another in store performance to attend. My opportunity came with the Eisley, whom i have seen before, and didn't mind seeing again. I took a good friend of mine, and we rocked out to some chick rock. They apparently didn't have the drawing power of Spoon so the show wasn't as packed.

One of the benefits of moving to San Antonio is that some more mainstream bands, that usually over look Austin, stop here. One of those bands is the Flaming Lips. Last years ACL Performance was great, but the crowed was massive, and i was left wanting a better spot. So I'm really excited to see them in September.

Lala.com has given me lots of great music, i recommend it (see Previous Post)

I really hope that i can keep Moging but i don't know what my work load will be with my new classes, hope to have time for it

One of the reasons I've been away for so long

Not considering work, my weekend trip, and catching up on sleep Lala.com has been keeping me from my usual mogging.
Lala.com, lets you upload up to 4,000 songs, and then listen to them on any other computer. It’s a reduced version of your itunes, but that’s not its only draw. The pg was first created to trade or buy cds. If you trade one then you can get one. There is a charge of 1.75 for every CD you receive but that’s not completely unfair, as they send you all the shipping materials. I’ve just signed up, and am already ready to trade 5 CDs, and I will be able to in a couple days when the shipping material arrives. I’m really excited to get my first trades, and this is such a great way to expand your collection at a cheep prize.

Tokyo, Canada, and Texas

So after a fun, but tiring trip to the west Texas hill country, I came back to Austin and saw a great Canadian band. Tokyo Police Club released an EP a while ago, and managed some buzz, and I got to see them at Emo’s on Sunday. They Played with white denim, and Ra Ra Riot. White Denim was one of the local bands that I didn’t know about, their sound was jumbled and the band was really energetic. They could probably use a lead guitarist, because the lead singer, who also played drums seem to have a hard time managing both. Ra Ra Riot is one of the bands that I often hear about but I never get the chance to actually check them out. And now that I’ve obtained a glimpse I really wish I had know of them sooner. The many instruments present in this band sound include a guitar, drums, bass guitar, a violin and a cello. I really enjoyed them and will go on a search for there EP.

The Four boys that followed showed some signs of inexperience but as soon as they started playing the crowed was riled up. Tokyo Police Club has been on tour for a while, but there hasn’t been a new release since the 2006 A lesson In Crime EP. They did play a lot of new material that the crowed hadn’t hear but still loved. There performance revived my enthusiasm for this bands future, and I now eagerly expect more music coming from them.

Fun Night out w/Oh No! Oh My!

What to do on a Thursday nigh? I know hang with an old friend and see a band with one of the most creative names ever!

The band Oh No! Oh My! Was having there CD release party last night, and I was curies to see how this band was live, with that name they had to be great, and they where. I was a little worried about how I would last the whole night, seeing as I was only running on 4 hours of sleep, but we made a pit stop got me some coffee and kept me caffeinated all night. ON! OM! where really fun, and the two other bands playing where really great as well.

I’m very proud to say that they are all local ATX bands. My Favorite out of all three was Black before Red, the best work I can use to describe them is endearing, and sweet, and the band was really funny and interactive. Abby Birds was the first band up, and they really set the mood for the night. And once the show was over they gave my friend free music, and me and that makes them really awesome in my book!!!

So here is some of Abby Birds tunes, and my pictures from the show

Going to waterloo

I’m going music (preferably records) shopping on Tuesday, but after looking over the releases for this week I’m disappointed. So looking at past releases that I have yet to buy I came up with this list

The Sea and Cake
Everybody

Satellite Party
Ultra Payloaded

The Polyphonic Spree
The Fragile Army

Anyone out there have an opinion on any of them or suggestions of resent releases that have blown your mind?

Appreciate the feedback

Midnight tunes

So it’s a little past midnight and I find myself listening to a song that I adore, and haven’t heard in so long. Pulp was over shadowed by Oasis and Blur in the 90’s but they made a splash with “Common People”.

And because its random and kick ass, I will share my midnight song with the few who are up.

When there’s nothing to do battle a pink robot.

In the summer I do lots of babysitting for my older sister, often times the girls get restless, and sick of watching TV in-doors. So I have to come up with creative ways to keep them entertained outside, this is one of our projects. It takes place in our drive way and in front of our shed as well as other random places in my back yard. The girls love this song now, because they’ve heard it so many times, but all in all a good time was had.

This is the final project I put it on google and unlike you tube it wont let me post on mog so this is the link

The Power of music and books

Because I'm leaving for college soon I really am trying to spend more time with my family, so when I heard about this show I thought it would be perfect for my older niece and me.

The end of a Harry Potter era is about to end, and I’m sure there isn’t one person who can escape the impact that is being felt this summer. Abigail is 11 and she can’t wait for the movie this summer so in anticipation we went to this show.

Harry and the Potters is one of the group’s whose main inspiration came form the books, they tour spreading the message of the book as well as encouraging kids to read. They donate to many charities and really love what they do. This was a fun show because everyone was so passionate. The subject matter itself made me smile; I do love the books and I’m not ashamed to admit it. The songs are creative, some are short and sweet, but the energy was high throughout.

If you’re a fan of the books you probably know this band, and if you don’t, you should. It has increased my anticipation for the arrival of the last book, as well as given my niece and me something fun to do on a Saturday night.

Another Night In The Live Music Capital Of the World

On Friday I went to go see one of the greatest bands that most people forget about, The Hold Steady’s! They got a lot of Buzz for Boys and Girls In America but not many followed up fans. Those who did take the lead got a great reward; I was one of the few. That’s why I was ecstatic to hear they where coming to Austin.

The show started out with Blitzen Trapper, they where one of the friendliest bands. I was in the front and while the band was setting up they where making conversation with all of us. Mostly we talked about the weather, it was around 80 degrees outside. The part of the venue we where in was opened up on one side but the stage was in a porch type structure, so no ventilation was coming in. The band was sweating before the show even began. There sound was a little rock with some country, they would fit perfectly in any Austin venue.

The next band that took the stage was Illinois, and I was sad that I didn’t know the band before Friday. They rocked the stage, not just with there great sound, but there energy. The lead singer was incredibly entertaining and there music was charming. They had a really fun Indy sound with a little rock in it. There playfulness extended to a rap song with a really great bass and funny lyrics. I fell in love with the lead singers charisma and voice. At one point the boys from Hold Steady’s came out because they where “stealing there thunder”.

Finally the band that everyone was waiting for took the stage. The band has the energy emotion and passion that many younger bands out there dont. They have so much gratitude and have the desire and want to not disappoint. Despite the heat, which the audience and the band where clearly feeling, they where relentless. They gave it there all and the audience loved it. There personalities where felt on stage. Galen Polivka was looking cool with his cigarette, and when he interacted with Franz Nicolay they made the perfect duo. Craig is really expressive with his hands and all the songs are narrated through them, Tad, whit his Sesame street T-shirt, was a sweet heart. Before the show started he talked to the crowed about watching out for each other, and when he got on stage he was really playful. These guys are incredible and really fun, I hope that those who don’t know them will take notice and maybe become fans.

Tania

These are some of the pictures I took and I wish I had audio for all three of the bands but I don’t so myspace will have to do, but I leave you with more Hold Steady’s.

The two sides of sky blue sky

This is a little late but o well.

But first some music to go along with the following:

So I just finished reading my Rolling Stones and Spin magazines. It usually takes me a while because I have to find time and I like to dissect them, for the following reasons I like passing judgment on the things they write about, or because every now and then they write about a good band (ex Voxtrot in Junes spin issue). But I like to save the reviews of each for last; I get a kick out of comparing the ratings on the new releases. This month all eyes where on Wilco, and Sky Blue Sky. I have read a lot of reviews on here, as I’m sure most of us have, if not on mog then other places, so I wont go into the complexity that is sky blue sky. But I will post the illustrations used in spin and rolling stones, they are complete opposite, and I got a laugh out of it, y? I don’t know but I found it amusing, and that’s why I’m sharing. Anyways I don’t want to plagiaries so I will site the Illustrators.

The long process of going digital

I have a crap load of cds and I’m really anal about them. They are all in alpha order by band name or last name of single artist and then they are split into those with cases and those that are just burnt copies from friends. I looked at the massive amount of music I would have to take with me to collage and made the wise choice of purchasing an external hard drive. At first I was going to settle for a 40 gb I pod, but that’s to small for me. My really sexy new 320gb hard drive is a week old, and ill only 3,173 songs in to it and counting. I am nowhere near done being finished but it’s all in the love of music.

That’s my rant about the hard work I‘ve been putting in this last week.

In anticipation for the hold steady show I’m going to next Friday, I’ll leave you with some thing of off boys and girls in America

Searching for THE song

I love finding songs that express perfectly the feelings I have towards a time or event. Like when I took a trip to Galveston, and I was Listening to Kings of Convenience, the tone was perfect and I will always associate the road to Galveston and the ocean breeze with Kings of Convenience.

Now in this moment of change I am on the search for that album, song or band that will document my growth. Yes I’m graduating on Saturday, and high school is coming to an end! I love it! I want the year to end and I really am running out of patience with the school and some of the people who go to my school. But I know that once this week ends I’m going to miss everything about high school.

My mixture of emotions makes it ten times harder to find the music that will get me through and move me forward. I don’t really relate to Vitamin C’s graduation song, or I believe I could fly or any of those awful song usually chosen to narrate the completion of high school.

Now feel free to give me advice and suggestions, and even include the songs you associate with moments of your lives.

Hope to find THE song soon!

If you have a Mac and love finding new and cool widgets I have one that plays really great music. Its called Flux 4 and it plays like a radio station w/out all the interruptions and bad music. It plays everything under the sun, ive heard some Beirut, Artic Monkeys, The Strokes, Pavement, Bjork, and soo many more. From that short list you can already see the big variety of music. They claim to be the “Web station for a creative Europe” but honestly it’s the web station for music lovers into a little bit of everything. I think its origins are somewhere in France because there web pg is in French but I recommend this to everyone!

Kings of Leon @ Stubbs Wed May 9

My fandom for this band has been long in the making, since there first album came out around 5 years ago I’ve been looking forward to seeing them live. My first attempt was at ACL last year, but I went to a signing and had a really bad spot. Later at this yrs SXSW I found out about them playing at the spin party, turned out to be a 21 and older show and i wasn’t able to see them. So when I heard about this show I prepped myself and got the tickets on pre-sale.

I had planned to be there at least an hour before doors open, but that was a horrible underestimation of their popularity. That fact combined with the traffic I got stuck in, made it to where i ended up towards the middle of the line, which went around the corner of the club. When I finally got in I managed to work myself up to a spot close to the stage still wasnt great considering my height, and I couldn’t see past a really tall guy in front of me.

The opening band only played like 3 songs, a storm was coming and KoL where going to play early. That cheered me up a bit especially cause I had an AP the following morning. The band was ok but with some bands it is hard to tell how there albums will sound versus there live shows.

When KoL came out they rocked it, and played all the big hits from the past albums. They avoided a lot of the new stuff or at least it felt that way, they kept the energy really high and the crowd was pumped. Everyone was dancing and I was shocked at the amount of people who knew the lyrics. Everyone sang along and at points you could hear them as well as everyone else. The show ended around 9:50, increadibly early but that was a good thing for me, because I was able to go home and rest for my ENG AP, but I ended up falling asleep during the last part of the test anyways, o well.

Wish I had pictures but it was impossible

First this is really late, I read about it in April, but here it is anyways
The Flaming lips Album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots is being turned into a MUSICAL!!!! I think this is the coolest thing ever and its being done by the same guy that made the Beatles Let it Be musical, I think that’s what its called

Second bit of news

Franz Ferdinand has just covered the song “All my Friends” By LCD Soundsystem. I was a little taken aback at first then I went to the LCD myspace pg and played it and loved it! I’ve never been a really big FF fan but the combination is good. I’ve always really loved the lyrics to this song but secretly I thought that the intro was to repetitive and long. This version has James Murphy’s brilliant lyrics and a shorter playing time making it really great, cause it showcases the lyrics the way they should be. Its also really poppy and catchy so FF fans wont be disappointed.

Tania
PS just came back from a Kings of Leon show more about it tmr

Target or local shop

So I got in an argument today over where to buy music. Should I buy it at target at a really good price, or pay the extra and shop at a local store?

My friend works at target and informed me that the new Arctic Monkeys CD was on sale for 9.98. At the same time I had gotten an email from the ppl at the local record store I shop at and they told me that they had it for 13. I was also looking to buy the new Electric soft parade cd that was coming out that same day and the local shop was ordering it for me. I decided to go ahead and buy the more expensive cd.

My friend made the argument that buying at target will give the artist more money, while I said that buying at the local shop will keep them open cause they don’t make the same profits and have to charge extra. My friend was like don’t you want your artist to succeed and I told her bands don’t make most of there profit from CD sale (only around 10% of total income) Most is made from Shows and that no matter where I buy it it will profit them more if I like them and go see them. Then I added the fact that the Arctic Monkey will sell millions and that at the local shop I know everyone and they do extra to keep me as a customer.

My account is kind of bias to my opinion but I would like to know if im right in my assumptions and if there are other arguments out there. So what side are you on?

Tania
By the way I just got a mac book so all my music stuff is off cause I haven’t transferred all my tunes yet.

Last night with TV on the Radio

I was miss-informed and under the assumption that doors where at 7, so I got to La Zona Rosa around 6:20. This made me the first in line; luckily I had brought a book and my ipod. Being the first in line isn’t a bad thing, you get to get the best spot (Front center stage), which I did, and you get to see the band members arrive late. Examples are the Guitarist of the Noisettes, talking on the phone and walking into the venue (he had great Shoes), and the lead singer (Noisettes) getting out of a taxi with some food and asking the guy at the front where the entrance for sound check was. Then I was kept entertained by a photographer for a local magazine, who had great story and whom I saw taking pic’s at ACL.

The Noisettes where not know by anyone around me, but they quickly won the crowed over. Especially the drunken frat kids yelling out “show us your boobs” and “you are sexy”. They got really annoying after a while but the band played along. They had crazy energy and really good moves.

TV on the Radio where everything I expected and kept me dancing all night. Tunde had really sexy moves, and was all over the place.

After a couple songs he started sweating like crazy, but he still rock out.

Kyp is so ultra cool and the rest of the band was incredibly energetic. Tunde wouldn’t even let his mike stand get in the way, any time it fell he would continue singing and dancing, and this explains the picture on Kyp on the ground.

All in all a great show a great night and I’m glad I didn’t let the fact that I had school the following day stop me from going.

the Kings of Leon

I got my Kings of Leon tickets today and I’m so eager for may 9th to come!!
I didn’t get to see them at sxsw and I only saw the last couple of songs at ACL! I love this band, the country, rock, drunken bar night feel of the music is so appealing. Don’t know how to explain how catchy there music is, but if you have yet to do it now! This band has been around for years, and has had success in Europe but not the US. That fact was how a fight between one of the band members of Jet and one from Kings of Leon got started. Jet had the audacity to claim they where a better band because they where more popular in the states! Like that means shit, Hillary Duff and Britney Spears are popular in the US and no one will ever argue that they are good artist.

Anyways that was my Kings of Leon rant/band recommendation

My first four records!

This Saturday some friends and I went out for a day of shopping and lunch, and we ended up at Waterloo record store. Sadly there are no record stores in north Austin and Waterloo is probably the closest one to my house.

Anyways I got my first four records and they are

Of Montreal- Hissing Fauna, are you the destroyer?
Malajube- Trompe~Loeil
Cat Power- The Greatest
Deerhoof- Friend Opportunity

Of Montreal came with free mp3 download, cat power has an extra song not on the album, and the Malajube record is pink!

I love my record player.

UTSA and life outside of Austin

Two major events happened to me today, I turned 18 and I heard back from UT. AS a birthday present my parents got me this really nice record player that also includes a CD, Radio, and tape player. I really like it and I’m going record shopping this weekend.

The second part didn’t shape up so well. I have been aspiring to go to UT for as long as I can remember. You also must know I go to a magnet school where all the students are really competitive and most of the classes are Magnet Topics or AP. It is really hard to get in to the top ten percent of our school; if you’re a Texas student then you automatically get admitted into any Texas school if u are top ten, i am not. That law limits the spots and I got CAPed, so know I have to go to UTSA for a year before I can go to UT.

I am in a panic!! How is the music scene in San Antonio, I have been used to the Austin music scene for so long that I don’t know how I can live w/out it. Is the situation in San Antonio ok, good, or bad? I really don’t like that city I’ve been there often and it doesn’t have the same Austin vive. Anyone have insight?

LCD rocks my world

I made another trip today to my favorite record store, yep encore. I have been anticipating the release of the new LCD soundsystem CD for a while, and it just so happens that it landed on the day before my birthday. I have never been a fan of dance/techno but LCD Soundsystem has made me change my mind, you can’t really say that it fully lies in those genres but you can’t deny the similarities. James Murphy is the reason that my music horizons have been expanded to include other bands like Kinky, whom I would have never considered before. He also has his own record label DFA, this guy is pretty inspiring.

Now time for my review of Sound of Silver:

My initial reaction was y is it so short; the last one was two disks and SoS only one. The next difference that popped out right away was the backing vocals, he has always done all the vocals, the girls on the new tracks actually add to the style he has developed in the last album. There also seems to be a lot more instruments then the last one just a bunch of new and different sounds. As of so far my favorite song has to be “New York I love you but you’re Bringing me Down” It has no beats and its a lot slower than any of his other stuff but its simplicity is enticing. It has actual instruments (i.e. cello, violin, and viola). “All of my Friends” seems like it could be one of those songs that I never get tired of. All in all, just from first listen I can tell I’m probably going to love it just as much if not more then the last one.

On another note, I want a record player for my birthday any opinions, a lot of my friends think that there out dated and obsolete but I know of lots of places where I can get records. Anyone have any opinions?

Austin is the shit!!

I love Austin, a lot of my friends are eagerly leaving for far off colleges, I want to stay and go to UT. I am reminded almost everyday y I love this town and yesterday was one of those days.

Explosions in the Sky got really big after doing the soundtrack for Friday Night Lights, that is filmed in town. There new CD has been given really great reviews in both Rolling stones and Spin. So I made my way to Encore on Anderson Lane to buy it. This is one of my favorite places, chepos and waterloo are great but Encore is right by my house so I go there more. I picked up the CD and had to avoided temptation, so I ended up staying for like 10 minutes. In those ten min I ended up finding like 5 others that I had to put back. So I’m ready to go cause I was about to spend money I didn’t have. As I was checking out I was talking to the clerk and he informed me that the many of the band members shop there and that it was one of the few stores that has the 2 disk album instead of the basic one you get at like best buy.

I love the music community in this town and I can’t wait till I can get out of the house a little more and share a part of it. What part not sure cause I can’t really play anything I just have a passion for music.

Looking forward to the future
Tania

SXSW day 3

So like i said before i tried to get into the spin party and my efforts where good. I hung out in front before the doors opened i made friends with all the security people, they told me all the great bands they saw, when i should come back etc. And since we all got along great they where all trying to get me in or in other words get me a pass. Then it was like 12 and one guy came out to tell them to only let in 21 and over, the bouncers ask me and i had to say no. they pointed me to other great shows we chatted a bit more but then i left. Not a big deal I was expecting not to get in and Kings of Leon are playing may 9th in ATX so I’ll be fine. On my way to other shows I saw flavor flav in front of his hotel, that was strange.

I headed to Gueros cause lots of good bands where suppose to be there and Electric Soft parade was playing at 5. The first band i saw was Rademacher, they weren’t anything out of the ordinary, every now and then they would go off key. They where not great just ok.

After i headed to Jo's and saw this oldies band that had some strange man dancing on top of a car

At 2 i went back to gueros and saw crawling with kings
They where great! And the atmosphere added to there show, every now and then a bird would chirp or a drink would be stirred and it only added to there songs. And the hushed whispers gave one of there songs a really great background.

And i recognized some of the band members as having been in the band Friends of Lizzy, whom i loved back when ME television was the Austin Music Network. And one of the guys was also a substitute teacher at my high school.

i again made my way to Jo's and i saw Chris Masterson and Elenor Whittmen, there sound reminded me of Nickel Creek

Finally i went back to Gueros one last time and saw a band called Gosling who i didn’t enjoy at all. Especially the lead singer’s voice it was way too high pitched for my ear.

Finally Electric Soft Parade came on. The lead singer had gotten Food poisoning from some bad airport food and this was there first SXSW show. They rocked it, but they only played one song from Hole in the Wall. I really need to get more of there stuff, the guys where silly and talkative, really entertaining, they even made a young girl there mascot. She was adorable dancing all over the place.

They had a good set and i was glad that i waited for them to come out.
I then headed to the last live taping at the ACL studios. Beirut was playing and i was ready for the crazy instruments. They did not disappoint i got really good pictures and met some cool people. The lead singer looked a little wasted but he had just turned 21 so that was understandable. The band, despite having some slow songs kept the crowds energy high which was much bigger then the Wednesday i had gone. I still managed to be right by the stage and take great pictures I’ll leave you with some of them
Tania

SXSW day 2 second time around

y the second time around because my cat stepped on the esc key on my key board. I must be having a bad karmic day. My itunes must know it 2 because LCD soundsystem is currently singing this to me -- "its the saddest night out in the usa"

y is it the saddest night, because i had a bad sxsw day.
I had really high expectations for today, a web page that i frequent was throwing a day party "tea for texas". I RSVP and was all set to go but when i arrived, after being stuck in massive traffic, i couldn’t find the place. Once there i checked in, and was on the list, but as i tried to walk through the door my id was looked over again and i was turned away. Yes im not 21 yet and because of those 3 yrs i missed out on all the fun at the DiS party!

i was comforted by the thought of going to see Electric soft parade who where playing at moonshire. I made my way there and heard the last 3 songs of a band who where really good, and i wish i could still remember there name but it has escaped me. The next band was Love electric who had a girl lead singer, im usually not a big fan of girl singers but they where ok. After it was announced that Electric soft parade where stuck in Chicago and where not coming. This put me in a bad mood.

I left to go back to 6th and was greeted by the endings of day parties. The crowed seemed smaller and lots of people where walking back to cars, probably to get lunch or sleep before night show began. I slowly made my way to emos and was branded with two ginormes x's on my hands. I didnt enjoy the band that was playing it was a really crappie punk band, so not my style of music at all.

I was so tired that i just called it quits and got me some starbucks instead and just went home

i hope tmr isnt as big of a let down
im going to try and get in to the spin party, this is a really big challenge
if that dosnt work out im going to try and see electric soft parade again
if that fails as well im open to suggestions

i really wish i was 21 not only because that would mean entrance to many more shows, but it also means i could drink legally. Getting drunk would have helped me lighten up today

3 more yrs

SXSW

So today was the first free show that I got the chance to go to. It was really great! Through Austin showlist I heard about these live tapings taking place so I made my way to the Austin city limits studio. The Seattle radio station kexp where broadcasting live and where allowing the public to serve as audience. The reason I wanted to go was for Ghostland Observatory. But before they began Lily Allen came by and gave an interview. As soon as G. O. came on the audience rushed the floor and a dance party began!

They lived up to all of the hype! And from now on rocking out no longer is shaking your head but instead shaking your hips! I love this band

The following band was Earl Greyhound, whom I had read an article about in Rolling Stones. They had a classic rock sound to them, which I’m not a big fan of but they did it well. I did love two or three of there slower songs. After there set I could not hear a thing. They had lots of drums! And where very loud!

The last band of the day was Mew
I had high expectations but was let down this band was, for lack of a better word, EMO and the lead singer had the mannerisms of an emo boy I know. I was kind of turned off I’m not a big fan of that genre.

Further more, the guitarist was kind of ridicules. He had a guy bring him out a different guitar for every song and he seemed to have purposely broken a string at the end of the set. They played all of 30 minuets and for a crowed of around 50, considering that there actions at the end seemed un-proportional to there exit. At the end of the last song they all set there instruments down and ran of the stage together.

Well I still had fun even if some of the bands where not to my likening, but the point of sxsw is to see new and up and coming bands.
More sxsw for tmr!

April 5th @ La Zona Rosa

TV on the Radio is playing at la Zona Rosa April 4th, and I absolutely want to go, but I hate going to shows alone. And I will most likely have to because most of my friends think I’m actually talking about TV being on the radio when ever I mention this band. The other half just know wolf like me and don’t care much about the albums.

So all ATX TV on the radio fans, let’s become really good friends, we have a couple of months, and then we can go to the show together.

I felt like procrastinating so I came on and now I’m writing a blog.
I haven’t really bought or seen any new bands but I have been listening to the Stars a lot, really great indie band, despite some slow tunes I become incredibly happy when I play one of there songs.

The new shins cd came out a couple of days ago, anyone have? it like it? or have an opinion on it? I have yet to make up my mind on whether its worth buying, I read in a polling stones article that it lacks a lot of the punch that was found in there other albums.

So the new Block Party Album got leaked on the internet and i got to hear it. It is sooo amasing. on Feb. 6th im going to be buying it the version i heard was kinda bad quality but i really expect the album version to be ten times better.

i also happend to win two tickets to see what made Milwaukee Famous on the Bobby bones almost live show, on ME television. But it was just my luck that i was out of town in San Antonio. I really wanted to go but i had to call the station and tell them to pick other winners.

all in all a good music week!
