Backwards from Feist to Broken Social Scene I go.
Somehow, in all of the articles I have recently read about Feist, the name Broken Social Scene only managed to tap lightly on the door of my subconscious information storage system. By accident I came across them online. By accident I forgot to buy one of their CDs this weekend when laying down some serious cash for some other purchases. Had to go back to Cutler's, and dammit, they only had one of the CDs, the self-titled 2005 release. So then I called Exile on Main in Branford to troll their holdings. Yep, they had one, took the drive from New Haven to Branford to pick up the 2003 You Forgot it in People release. And after all that mileage, after all that hassle, to get my dirty little mits on some of their music... Well, I was richly rewarded. Even in this age of high gas prices and my ever amping consciousness of things global in the warming sense, this weekend was about driving. For me, there is no better way to get to know an album than driving with it. (thankfully, I have a highly efficient vehicle!) Well, maybe rooted to my work chair with earbuds in, but no, somehow when driving and listening the roads and tracks meld and my attention rides the synergy. This weekend was an utter stunner in CT. Clear blue sky, electric green trees, mild temps, a breeze that felt liquid and seductive, a little like good sex. I was positively in love with my experience of the weekend. And a lot of my love surge had to do with these two CDs and they way the sounds formed my filter on the world outside my car.
Let's just say I was feeling superconnected...

In my case I need to go forward from BSS to Feist, and looky here, we're crossing paths! There's nothing quite like driving with the music blasting ... one of my favorite things. Sounds like a mighty fine weekend.

I know, I know! One of my guilty pleasures too, for sure. Glad you're loving it!
I gotta get busy making a mix for me and my Ma to listen to this weekend when we hit the road, what fun! I'm definitely throwing some of that new Feist on.

a little like good sex. I was positively in love with my experience of the weekend. Funny how music can do that to you

I hear you - driving and music were made for each other. That's the only way I can really absorb music.

Nice mog on how you came accross BSS from Feist.
Grats on the find. BSS is one of my favorite bands. With the news of the new BSS cd being released in September, I busted out You Forget it in People and the Self Titled just this week and have been listening to them. Nice choices for the songs. I love Windsurfing Nation...great song.
Here is a post I did on about a week ago on the new BSS cd that is coming out in September. http://mog.com/Marigold/blog_post/87866
Ha! Now that you are into BSS you are going to have to check out everyone else that comprises the BSS collective......Stars, Jason Collett, Emily Haines, Metric, Amy Millan...all have ties to Broken Social Scene and have independently released great records.

You guys are awesome. I loved combing through all of your comments! So glad to hear the enthusiasm for Feist and BSS. And woah - here I go again on that exponentially multiplying trip from one artist to um, well like 10 more... God I need a second job just to keep me in music...
Marigold and bringmeup - can't wait to check out your posts and clips on the new BSS!!
