Backwards from Feist to Broken Social Scene I go. Somehow, in all of the articles I have recently read about Feist, the name Broken Social Scene only managed to tap lightly on the door of my subconscious information storage system. By accident I came across them online. By accident I forgot to buy one of their CDs this weekend when laying down some serious cash for some other purchases. Had to go back to Cutler's, and dammit, they only had one of the CDs, the self-titled 2005 release. So then I called Exile on Main in Branford to troll their holdings. Yep, they had one, took the drive from New Haven to Branford to pick up the 2003 You Forgot it in People release. And after all that mileage, after all that hassle, to get my dirty little mits on some of their music... Well, I was richly rewarded. Even in this age of high gas prices and my ever amping consciousness of things global in the warming sense, this weekend was about driving. For me, there is no better way to get to know an album than driving with it. (thankfully, I have a highly efficient vehicle!) Well, maybe rooted to my work chair with earbuds in, but no, somehow when driving and listening the roads and tracks meld and my attention rides the synergy. This weekend was an utter stunner in CT. Clear blue sky, electric green trees, mild temps, a breeze that felt liquid and seductive, a little like good sex. I was positively in love with my experience of the weekend. And a lot of my love surge had to do with these two CDs and they way the sounds formed my filter on the world outside my car.Let's just say I was feeling superconnected...
