I haven't posted on MOG in a while. I've been very busy getting things together for the release of my newest recording. The band is called, Robin Eubanks and EB3 and the recording is called Live Vol.1
I've noticed several nice new features on MOG. I have to learn how to use them. My MOG -O-Matic wasn't tracking my playlist so I dowmloaded the latest beta version. It seems to be working now.
Anyway, I hope to be more active on here...

I've been encouraged since I've beeen on MOG by the number of people that have demonstrated musical diversity in their listening. When I searched for MOGs like me or when some people have added me, I was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of music individuals were listening to.
I grew up listening to funk, so I use it as my common denominator.By funk, I mean the syncopation and feel that happen over a steady pulse or beat. Using that as my criterion, it allows me to listen to a lot of different styles of music and deal with their commonalities. I hear, Thelonius Monk, Busta Rhymes, Led Zeppelin, Igor Stravinsky, Art Blakey, Public Enemy, Yes, African tribal music, Indian ragas and Afro-Cuban music, the same way. If I can feel the "funk", there's a good chance I'm going to like it. By dealing with my musical common denominator, funk (syncopated rhythm), I can transcend the musical category or genre.

I always thought Led Zep was a total closet funk band. The rhythm section they had was jammin. Those two guys were always perfect. Never out of beat, or out of step or time. Those boys could really swing when it came down to it.
MOG has totally opened me up to more stuff. I started out a rock guy years ago, listening to the standards - Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Doors, post-Rubber Soul Beatles, etc. But there's stuff out there that I think I'd never find if it weren't for MOG, just because I don't run in music circles locally.
As for whether it's funky, I dunno. Guess I'll have to pay attention to that. Check out Diouf if you've time. You might like 'em.
Right on! I have found merit in almost every kind of music...life is too short to limit yourself...and MOG has helped SO much!!

Looking forward to your new album!
: = )
Robin, Great to have you back! When is the album coming out? Is there song off it that you'd be up for streaming on MOG? If so, you should upload using the "upload MP3" link. What happens is that an MP3 is turned into a streaming flash file. People can listen to the song but can't download it. If you do upload a song, we can feature it on the MOG home page for about a week.
