I find this particular time in late 78 early 79, really interesting. A lot of guitar based new wave bands were bringing the keyboards to the front and integrating them with the guitars sound. It's interesting to look at the musical landscape around this period with albums such as, Systems Of Romance (Ultravox), Replicas (Tubeway Army) and Quiet Life (Japan) being released. I could also go on about the NWOBHM and how it both embraced punks DIY attitude and managed to provide a musical lifeline for many an ex-'rock dinosaur'. Oh, and a certain Throbbing Gristle released 20 Jazz Funk Greats. Exiting times. The number 1 singles in the UK for 79 also make interesting reading. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_in_music_%28UK%29
and as for the albums that year, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_in_music#Albums_released
Help, I am going all nostalgic on you. So, lets end with a bit of Tubeway Army.
Just checked out the single cover, through google images, cool.
Hey, oceanrain, do you know if it ever came out on picture disc? That would look real cool.
Wow! Ocean Rain, I have that Echo and the Bunnymen single "Pictures on my Wall", yeah? Love G numan Love U vox con Foxx! Saw Echo and the Bunnymen Crododiles Tour 1980 Reseda Country Club on acid...umm, yep. I loved early Psychedelic Furs and Teardrop Explodes as well. Also J cope solo stuff can be interesting.
