Japanese Melodic Death Metal, or not?

Posted almost 5 years ago
Real interesting stuff comming out of the whole melodic death metal scene, and Blood Stain Child is just one example. Actually, IMHO, I find that Japanese bands are real good at this whole hybrid music trip. For all you equipment watchers out there looks like the keyboard players might be using a Alesis Micron - which is one small but solid bit of kit - first time I went through the sounds on that puppy I wet myself through nostalga.

  1. darmuzz says Robin, wow, this rocks! Sounds like a combination of techno (but not industrial), prog rock and screamo (more so than death metal). Would love to hear more like this!

  2. RobinH says Hi darmuzz, how you doing. I've been looking for a band for ages that combine techno and metal, in just the right parts. In the past bands, that I have found, either wimp out on the guitar sound or swamp the techno swirls with other instruments. Techno remixes of metal tracks aren't much better and have a tendency to take one riff loop and repeat, dropping other elements in and out (not very inventive). These guys seem to understand exactly what 'hybrid metal' is all about. The track I posted is off the most recent album Mozaiq (I think it was released only last week) "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozaiq":http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozaiq The previous album, Idolator, does have Techno elements but not as quite as pronounced as more recent stuff. The vid for Truth, the single off the album, can be found here "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgNQ5lm4tB4":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgNQ5lm4tB4 This band are pretty unique, and while other melodic death metal bands have incorporated keyboards they seem careful to keep it in the 'symphonic sound setting' which means that they can just start to sound like a power/symphonic metal band with cookie monster vocals. I could see a band like In Flames (one of the original melodic death metal bands) going down this route "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgBGaMzqLBk":http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgBGaMzqLBk, but I can't think of any other band doing specifically what BSC are doing.
