With Fathers Day been and gone, maybe it's time to reflect on the musical implications of this wonderful marketing invention. There is a interesting article here about the "Return Of Dad Rock" http://www.pr-inside.com/rss/the-return-of-dad-rock-r154167.htm
Who would have thought it The Clash - Dad Rock - [laughs]. Well I suppose that's the irony of the term, give it another few years and instead of Rock Dad, or Punk Rock Dad, we will have Grindcore Dad or Black Metal Dad compilations in the cheap albums section of Woolworths (or Walmart).
I also find it interesting that a growing number of parents are into more brutal music than their kids. Soon they will be moaning at them to 'turn the music up'.
When I was growing up the sort of rock music my Dad liked was Mike Oldfield and the Shadows. No chance of him going into Woolworths to ask for 'the excellent new album by that Throbbing Gristle'.
Mike Oldfield - Moonlight Shadow
Hey they aren't too bad... rrrr bad Rob...
I thought Curly Leads was a member of the band until I realised that the album "Rockin with Curly Leads" was a reference to style of guitar cable at the time. ...duh...
