I believe Aztec Camera was one of the most overlooked bands of the 80's. Elvis Costello once claimed Roddy Frame as the only songwriter that he felt threatened by. High praise indeed.
Their first two records were pure pop bliss. The second record Knife was produced by Mark Knopfler. After that they tried to force their way into the mainstream and the next few records lacked the consistency of the first two. The 80's dance groove infiltrated their sound and they were never able to capture the vibe that they originally established. The first two records still hold up pretty well and Roddy's guitar playing was brilliant. Touches of flamenco throughout.
