WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Stanton Moore - All Kooked Out

Posted over 3 years ago
If you like funky, booty shaking inducing, fun, raw, jam music....or even if you don't, give this CD a run. The band comprised primarily of drummer Stanton Moore (Galactic) 8 string guitarist Charlie Hunter and saxophonist Skerik who put forth an all out funk/jam mash of booty shaking goodness from the opening track of "Tchfunkta". A stirring rendition of Monk's "Green Chimneys", New Orleans jazzy "Blues for Ben", or the laid back, smoky bar vibe of "Honey Island" make it impossible for the listener to just sit down and take it in with out tapping at least a finger....let alone cavorting around in a sweat soaked jig.Another thing that i like about this disk....is that it actually sounds like a band. A semi-live sounding one without all of the processed sounding production and overdubs. Is very easy to picture yourself in a packed out, small, smoky dive bar with this band playing onstage. It's also quite reasonable to envision them on a large stage at a jazz festival....This CD is a perfect disk to have in your CD player on the drive home from work on Friday or while cleaning the house on Saturday. Either would require a lot of movement while doing the task at hand....
