Daft Side of my brain

Posted over 5 years ago
Due to the fact that i’m a 36 year old man, i can no longer be referred to as “the weird guy” or “anti-establishmental idiot”. The proper term me thinks would be “eccentric”. i have never followed trends, nor have i ever been enamored by any sort of musical “in thing”. If i like it, i’ll listen to it. But often times i miss out on a groovy band or artist only to discover them years later.Such is the case in this instance. So having read recently that Roger Waters was taking a band out on the road this summer to perform “Dark Side of the Moon” in it’s entirety, i had a sudden and undeniable craving to listen to this CD much like one does when craving ice cream, chocolate, cake or curry. i have never owned “Dark Side” nor have i ever desired to in the past even though i knew all of the songs on the CD due to radio play on classic rock radio when i was growing up. Nor have i ever been into drugs of any sort short of a quality beer to wash down the Chicken Madras or proper red wine.i immediately contacted a bunch of my friends via e-mail or phone or Skype to see if anyone owned it or any Pink Floyd for that matter. Need less to say, by the end of the week , i had, in my greasy little paw, Dark Side as well as “Wish You Were Here”, “Animals”, and “The Wall”. It was like curry to a pisshead.Being a working member of the recording industry, i was amazed at what a great recording Dark Side is being that the production values in the 70’s left a lot to be desired. The lush guitar tones, warm sounding drums and space-age like keyboards are enough to propel any listener into sonic bliss by the end of “Breathe”. These CD’s prompted me to look into Floyd on the web and found a few fan run sites that included full discography, trivia, tour schedule’s from the time they started touring and the set lists from all of those shows. The more i read, the more i was sucked in. The more i listened, the more i was loving every note, the more notes i loved, the more i was craving to listen to more, to learn more, to read more stories…..My sincere apologies to the band for not paying attention sooner…Daft side indeed.
