WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Faith No More fan? Then check out this forgotten album.

Posted over 2 years ago
I popped this album in for the first time in awhile the other day. I just looked in their artist lounge here on MOG, and found only 1 post, which was lumping them in with a lot of radio rock bands and bashing them.Let me set you straight. If you don't like Faith No More, Incubus and/or Glassjaw, then just stop reading now, because that's basically what this album sounds like. So why is it any good, since we have other albums by the aforementioned bands?Well, mainly because Faith No More have been gone a long time (and might I add that they are NOT responsible for rap-rock in the 90's; if you really listened to them, you'd know they covered pretty much every genre there is); Glassjaw have played a few shows recently, and keep threatening to make a new album, but basically, they're gone too; that leaves Incubus, who started cannibalizing their own radio hits somewhere around Morning View (to be fair, I haven't heard the last album).Finch grew from a mediocre pop-punk band with a few good songs to what could very well have been the next Faith No More album on Say Hello to Sunshine. They've since broken up, so I guess most people agreed with the bashers on the other post, but I thought those of you with a Faith No More jones might appreciate this album.

  1. iwanttofillyourmouthwithspiders says I would be very curious to hear the other songs on the album. With FNM having such a varied "style", its difficult to think of other bands sounding similar, but I am always open to the opportunity! Thanks for the post, I will check them out.

  2. River Lethe says Well, towards the end, FNM had streamlined to a more rock sound, though still fairly weird. This album kind of picks up where Album of the Year left off. Throw in a bit of Worship & Tribute and Make Yourself, and you've got Say Hello to Sunshine. P.S. Spiders, do you post sometimes on Blabbermouth? Your screen name (which is very cool and disturbing) seems familiar to me from somewhere.

  4. RGM says Angel Dust, seems to be most FNM fans faves, I remember when it first came out there was a big comparison to it to the first Mr. Bungle's release that came out just before it. Was a great time for music, I saw them at the Hollywood Palladium on that tour. Great show, and they sounded, and thats a hard vennue to get a great sound! My fave from them though were "Introduce Yourself," And "Realthing," I thought their song writng was the strongest on thoughs two releases. But I agree all their stuff is great overall!

  5. River Lethe says Jealous of you getting to see FNM; I never did. Have seen Tomahawk though, and that was cool.

  6. RGM says My wife snuck out one night to see Tomahawk without me LOL. We've also seen Bungles twice there were cool but jerky live. Heard they hated L.A. plus on the second time Melvins (under the name Melvins Eggnog) got booed off stage. Bungles came on and played this I'd say it was about 40 mins it seemed from what I remembered looking at my watched. Version of "My Friends From High School Are Dead," De-Tuned. Really, Really, Really slowed downed LOL! They also did "Time flowing like a river," and ended with happy birthday to the drummer and chased him of stage at the end. Most of their stuff was off Volante, which they hadn't released yet or told the audience. They did maybe one or two tracks off the first one, Tom Araya was there. Knew that was him a few rows up! He went up to mike after the show I heard and said that was totally unpofetional and should have done songs except noise. Mike said thoughs were the songs, Toms reply Oh! ...The First gig I saw them at they had a ton of openers, They only played for 20 min. LOL... ;) PS still one of the coolest 20 min.

  7. HelenMarie says I know I'm a bit late, but I had this message flagged to come back to. (I have to say-I just got signed at lightning speed too, woo hoo) I dig this and want to hear more, I definitely hear the Incubus on this and a bit of FTN. I was so into Incubus up to, and including, Morning View-that album has some of my favorite songs of theirs (Just a Phase, Are You In). I have the recent album and I tried to get into it, but it (& a crow left of the muder) still just don't seem to have the well thought out tunes, breaks and lyrics that the previous albums had. Just have to to add...I waited 4 hours outside a venue to see Bungle the night after the Melvins busted up the sound system. We were just about to call it a night when they finally opened the doors, and Bungle was tearing it up. Fantastic in my opinion. Take Care!
