Jacob Arnold posted a brief review of the Strange Fruit Project's new album, 'The Healing'. The record came out yesterday, and it is being released by the ever-so-loverly Om Records. Jess Horrible briefly mentioned this in her recent MOG post on Om's resurgence recently, but I didn't connect the dots until now.
Strange Fruit Project are actually from my neck of the woods, heralding from Waco, Texas. The three main guys take turns rhyming, and there are some excellent producers on this record (9th Wonder, Illmind, etc.). S1 (one of the members of SFP) is a wonderfully talented producer in his own right, though. Cameos from Little Brother, Erykah Badu, and others only help strengthen this release as well. Don't sleep on these guys! While the production can be a tad bit poppy for my taste, it is a very refreshing soulful album full of innovative lyrics and great beats. Oh, and their track, "Milk 'Em", featuring the untouchable Ghostface was one of my favorite tracks last year...I was quite surprised it didn't make it onto this new release, but that only goes to show you how strongly this album stands on its own.
