Ice Cube hasn't lost his gangsta image despite being a movie star. He's still one of the best rappers out there and this new CD is full of bangin' tracks in the West Coast Gangsta style. Check out "Chrome and Paint" for a taste of this gem. Other tracks feature like "Go to Church" feature Snoop Dogg, Lil' Jon and others. Great tracks for cruising in the low-low with the woofers thumpin. Check out "Smoke some Weed".. too many great tracks :)
I'm not sure if I'm getting soft in my old age but I've been getting into more girl groups and female singers lately. Maybe I'm more open minded or maybe the women are more talented than ever?
This new Camera Obscura CD, "Lets get out of this country", is melodic and infectious in a commercial pop kind of way (That's not a bad thing !). Lush instrumentation and lavish production bring home the catchy melodies.
If you are even slightly a fan of Liz Phair, then check this out.
I was searching the web and somehow turned up this interview with Lisa Fancher, owner of Frontier Records. When asked about women in punk who deserved recognition, she brought up my mom. That's pretty cool.
Rest in Peace, Mama Zed. Mother of LA Punk!

This is one banging album. Being a huge fan of his first couple solo albums, especially Death Certificate, this is a welcome return to form, because I was not feeling the War & Peace albums. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who loves "Chrome & Paint" , lots of folks don't like that awkward beat but I can't get enough. "Child Support" is great too but I've played it to death. If you're looking for Cube at his most lyrical, he's spitting better on "Growing Up" and "Nigga Trap" than he has in years. It's also great to see him being political again, the game's been missing that.
