Before he really hit his stride with Eels, Mark Oliver Everett had a two-album solo career and was known simply as E. Broken Toy Shop is his second album, released in 1993. Like his first effort, A Man Called (E), it is pop/rock burnished to a high gloss with the lyrical beauty that fans of Eels have come to expect. I have to say, however, he's a lot more cheerful than he later became with Eels. Give it a listen, let me know what you think. You may even remember this track from alternative radio from the early to mid 90s.
