I Believe In You....

Posted over 2 years ago

Talk Talk. If you came of age in the 80s, you probably best remember them as a "new wave" band - their video for "It's My Life" had to be one of the most-played vids on MTV back when they actually still showed videos. (Let's not even get into the No Doubt version.)

I always liked their stuff, but never sought it out or even bought any of their singles or albums. But as my taste in music expanded as I grew older, I began hearing and reading raves about their album "Spirit of Eden." After literally years of hearing good things about this disc, I finally tracked it down and bought it.

And a new album entered my Top 5 favorites of all time. Here's a video for "I Believe In You".

If you like that, you simply MUST get the album. Gone are the synthesizers, the white new-wave suits of the "Talk Talk" video, and in are reverbed guitars, filthy nasty harmonica, and a very old-school organic sound. It is quite literally brilliant. Do yourself a favor - if you love music and do not own this album, you need to get it.

  1. Kate says I had the same experience with Spirit of Eden, and have come to love the album. I went back and listened to some earlier Talk Talk and was so disappointed! Also worth checking out is their bassist Paul Webb's album with Beth Gibbons, called "Out of Season".
